Where is the content of a website with multiple languages?

Post by Smig » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:20 pm

So, long story short, someone vanished and this old website is now on my hands. The problem is that I don't know how to work with it, and even though I've been able to make small updates to it, I don't think I can tackle the latest obstacle. It doesn't help that its software is so outdated that I haven't been able to find much info online.

The website is in two languages. There's Portuguese as the primary one at http://www.site.com/, and then there's a link on the top right that sends people to http://www.site.com/eng/, for the English version. The problem is that the English version is very outdated and I don't know how to get there from the back-end.

I've meddled around in [Site > Languages > Site Languages] but there doesn't seem to be any way to get to language's contents. I also can't find any English content anywhere on the back-end. Also, since the English front-end is at http://www.site.com/eng/, I also tried to get to a back-end at that location by going to http://www.site.com/eng/administrator/ (instead of the usual http://www.site.com/administrator/), and indeed, a back-end login screen pops up, only it doesn't accept any credentials.

So, any idea how I can change content on different languages?

The page footer shows this info:
Joomla! 1.0.13.01 pt-PT Estável [ Sunglow ] 21 Julho 2007 16:00 UTC

You should be able to get to the English content same way as your Portuguese
It's Joomla 1.0.x so you probably need to look for installed component called JoomFish to get to the multiple language content.

The other could be there realy is two instances of joomla 1.0.x running, one in root the other one in root/en/.

You could check by using FTP to check the folder tree for a joomla install in folder /en.

Do give us your real URL.. so we can see some more...

I just solved this problem. Thanks for the help.

Since there was another login screen at http://www.site.com/eng/ with different credentials, I started looking for ways to recover them, and in doing so, I found this resource:
http://docs.joomla.org/J1.5:How_do_you_ ... assword%3F

It's for 1.5 but it works just the same. The hosting service had phpMyAdmin, so I connected through that and I just had to change the password of one of the users.

It seems your second idea was right. There were two whole separate databases, one for each language.

Crisis averted :)
