Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
Will there be updates for 1.0.14 and 1.0.15 versions of Joomla sometime in the near future? It's plenty usable, but just does not like the fact I have 1.0.15 version of Joomla, thus giving warnings about using JTS for 1.0.13 with the wrong version of Joomla.

Ok, thats not a problem. At least not for me. What I need from it seems to work fine, it just complains sometimes.
Great tool set by the way!

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
Yeah I know guys, sorry for the delays, a few things cropping up at the moment taking presidence and time.
But for those looking for more information regarding this project; the plan going forward is;
JTS1 Project * CURRENT *
JTS-standalone, JTS-component, JTS-snap & H.I.S.A
Will be updated to support 1.0.15 and 1.5.1
JTS-assured will be retired but available in the near future.
All JTS1 Projects will be retired, but still available upon release of the equivalent JTS2 product
JTS2 Project * NEW * COMING *
JTS2-standalone, JTS2-component, JTS2-snap & H.I.S.A2
Complete JTS redesign and re-build, supporting 1.0 and 1.5
JTS2-post
Remedial bug-fixing, re-develop to better support translations and simpler maintenance
JTS2-standalone on-going plans : Unlike the JTS product, JTS2 should have the capability to use all the standalone tool-sets as plugins, for example: install a basic JTS2 instance, it will contain standard default tools and utilities, but if another standalone tool is installed within the JTS2 directory, the JTS2 instance will auto-magically detect it and configure a menu item to access it by. however, all other standalone tools will continue to be able to function within their own instance.

Project Releases http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jts/frs/
JTS2 Project Feature Requests http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jts/tr ... er_id=7048
Schedule
Hopefully, I will be able to really start work on this stuff again in the next few weeks, but I cannot commit or promise a date, sorry for the vagueness here, best I can offer at the moment. JTS team, thanks for the support so far, will let you know as and when things get going again from my side.

Read the above post and follow the links provided by RussW. The post and the links have all the information needed.
Short answer is he is busy with other projects right now, so there is no firm time frame.

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
I just downloaded the latest version which is supposed to be for J! 1.5 legacy. When I tried to run it, I got the following message:
UnSupported Version of Joomla! Or Joomla! Not Detected
Please upgrade to, or install the latest release.
I am running J! version 1.53. Is that the problem?
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
It's only good for version 1.5.0 anything higher will give errors such as you see. If it is anything like the 1.0 versions, most of it or at least the important parts such as the file/directory permissions checks and file checks for the correct code (or whatever the exact line is) in the top of them and it should work fine for those purposes.
Code: Select all
defined( '_VALID_MOS' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
I would really appreciated if this component is being kept updated, and development is completed. This is the first component I install, and I believe it should be part of any Joomla installer package (together with Joomla diagnostics if that were regularly updated as well). If the lists of extensions would also alert me to those that are unsecure I would pay for an updated Joomla+JTS installer!

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
This component is being updated at the moment. Read the post from RussW, the developer, a few posts above.
For those of you interested in a sneak preview of the upcoming JTS2 GUI, download Russ' Joomla security guide at http://sydney.joomladay.org.au. It is under Presentation downloads on the main page and is called Joomla Security Introduction (under Brad Baker). Then have a look at page four up close.
At the time the presentation was delivered (early February this year), JTS 2.0.0 was in the alpha development stage (as you can see if you look closely at the top of the screenshot). You've got to admit the new interface looks really really nice.
Thanks to Russ and the rest of the JTS team for such a great component! Can't wait for the public release...

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
The screenshot looks great!
I was thinking that it would be great if there could also be a check for folders in which there is no index.html file. Sometimes these are forgotten when someone creates an images directory or an extension folder, and this is a security risk.
What would also be nice is if there would be a check to see if all the php files in the main extensions folders have the JEXEC bit for security reasons.
These two things together would be a big step forward in checking the security of third party extensions in a way that does not require much effort or understanding on the part of the administrator, and would help keeping up Joomla's reputation as a secure system.

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
Guys thanks for the plugs for JTS and the Security Presentation also for continuing to support this project, very much appreciated.
OK, the good news is, I will be trying my utmost to pick the Tools Suite project up again in the next couple of months but it will be slow to start with... BUT...... (hopefully you will like this)
1)
It is likely to have another new interface... (see attached screenshot)
- Comments and suggestions welcome, comparisons, good, bad and indifferent to JTS1 and the Pre-Alpha V2 interface below welcome, as ever.
- Why? I am not only color challenged, but astestic and graphically challenged, but I think I have come up with a cleaner interface this time. 2)
JTS2 will support;
- J! 1.0 from 1.0.14
- J! 1.5 from 1.5.0
3)
JTS2 is re-branded to simply Tools Suite2 (reasons will become evident in a minute)
- New logo (still working on that, as I said I am graphically challenged and I am not a graphic artist)
- Fits in with the "new" direction (more in a minute)
4)
Tools Suite will have it's own website Yaaaaaah..! available in the next few weeks...
- I have managed to get my company to sponser a site and some time to devote to Tools Suite
- Tools Suite will be extended beyond purely Joomla! support.!
- - Why? Well, I figured Open Source is Open Source, users of one project are similar to another and are likely to have similar issues in the early stages and I have recently started to get involved in some other packages as well. Why not try and pass the Tools Suite around?
5)
Tools Suite will begin to support (in the one package) the following projects;
- J! 1.0
- J! 1.5
- Drupal
- WordPress
- MODx
- e107
- Mambo
starting with Joomla! 1.0 and J! 1.5 of course
6)
JTS-post will be re-vamped to suit the new (chosen) interface and supported projects, becoming TS-post
The not so good news...
1) This will all take a bit of time.
2) The "extension updates will follow after the standalone applications are fairly stable
3) H.I.S.A will be discontinued in favour for Tools Suite, as it effectively already does the same and more.
Let me know what you think, suggestions, thoughts, idea's all welcome....

Russ -
I think it is an excellent idea and in the process of adapting this so the usefulness extends beyond the boundaries of just one project, you will learn things that will help our project, and hopefully help others, as well. Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing.

Russ,
I think it's absolutely fabulous that your company will sponsor you a bit to pursue this venture. As more companies become thus inclined, I see the open source world soaring to new heights.
Cheers, and thanks for a very exciting and promising update. This can't help but grow open source iniatives exponentially as server security becomes more clear and graphically outlined.

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
I am brand new to Joomla. I am trying to install it. I downloaded joomla1.5.4. Now the guide instructs me to go to http://localhost/joomla15 I did this and got "cannot view page."
My computer warned me against allowing intranet. I allowed intranet anyway. Still no connection to localhost/joomla15
I tried adding .org and .com
Still no connection to localhost/joomla15
I need to get this part of the installation process done so I can move on to more of the installation process. Thank you, Mark Zemel

Well i gave it a try with 1.5.4 and no go. I get the basic page and then I get this; "UnSupported Version of Joomla! Or Joomla! Not Detected
Please upgrade to, or install the latest release.. Nice. Any advice?
Also the path for me is home/user/joomla-installed-primary-account-domain/jts/index.php that works to bring up the component, but then I am getting asked if I installed jts in the right directory. Also, give me a protected path I could recognize on a hosting account, thanks.

I love this extension but have removed it from all my sights until I see if there is some stable development.

Re: Joomla! Tools Suite v1.0 & Health, Installation and Securit
My sites are all up to date, but i was unsure if the project was moving forward and didn't want to get used to something that was going away.
The dev had some news recently that development was moving forward, but i've not seen the fruits of those labors as yet.
