2 joomla sites on same XAMPP server (localhost)

Post by kat05 » Fri May 09, 2008 2:48 pm

Hi there!

I have just successfully set up a local server under Windows Vista and installed joomla thanks to this great video tutorial :)

Title: Installing XAMPP & Joomla! 1.5
http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1802750A7Mn ... 196&rank=3

Now I am wondering if I can just copy the Joomla folder under htdocs and call it Joomla2.
Would that give me 2 different sites (localhost/joomla and localhost/joomla2) that are totally independent?

Or which other way is there to have 2 localhosts??

Thanks a lot!

You can have multiple Joomla installations when you use a different subdirectory for each.

Just create another directory, unzip the Joomla files there and proceed to do a normal installation. During the installation, specify a different mysql database for this new installation.

yes but what about the other files that xampp has default before the copy/paste of the joomla files?

If you create folders (directories) to hold your Joomla files, e.g. a folder called "joomla1", and unzip the joomla files inside this folder, you can access the site like this: http://127.0.0.1/joomla1

And you won't affect the default XAMPP files.
