Installing Joomla using a web browser (easy install).

Post by dreynolds20 » Thu Feb 09, 2006 9:14 pm

Hi,

I have copied Joomla_1.0.7-Stable-Full_Package.zip onto machine and unzipped it, copied all of the files onto my sevrer under http://www.domain.co.uk/joomla_folder and I follow these instructions http://help.joomla.org/content/category/15/99/132/ very carefully.

I am using linux, apache and php/mysql on a hosted server.

I can not get the index.php file to start up and allow my virgin install to run.

Please help.

Dave

I have the same problem. Did you resolve it? If so, how?

Hi,

There was two issues I was having.

1. I hadnt actually manually created the mysql database and user.
2. I use a hosting company and cPanel for part of my setup and I had copied the setup file into the wrong directory

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dave.

I don't know whether my files are in the correct directory or not. How did you find out and move it?

And how does one manually set up a MySQL database?

I'm very new to this (if you hadn't guessed).

Hi,

I am a newbie like you but learning daily.

I am guessing you use a hosting company for your site, mine uses cPanel http://www.cpanel.net/products/cPanelan ... cp_whm.htm which is an incredibly powerful tool that allows email handling and domain parking. This allows you to create databases and users in mysql easily and also has a built in file manager where you can copy and run the Joomla software.

I use http://www.nativespace.co.uk which are a UK based company and have excellent support and are great value.

have you got joomla up yet?

FTP the files to your root folder, make sure permissions are writable, then in your browser http://yoursite.com/installation/index.php just follow the four steps.
will need the connection details for your database
