How do I back up my database?

New to all this but have taken over my cycling club web site www.staffordrc.org which is running on 1.0.12 version and want to upgrade to 1.5 and then2.6

but not sure of th efirst step of backin gup my data base

can anyone direct me to where I can see a step by step set of instructions or video

Use a tool/utility such as phpMyAdmin to do this.

Try the following:

- Invoke phpMyAdmin
- On the left panel, choose the database that you use for your Joomla! site by double clicking on the database name
- On the right panel, click on the tab Export
- Choose the option to save the file
