Would like to know the pros and cons of upgrading. I can't seem to figure it out on my own yet. Any thoughts? Help is always appreciated.

Personally, I think its the best move you could ever make, but I dont know how much content you have, and how much time you have to test and retest.

The one main reason not to, is the lack of good extensions for 1.5, but they are emerging every day now, that we are getting into Joomla 1.5's 1 year birthday.

Its so much easier to get around, lots of things you can do easier and faster.

Too many features to list of why, but thats really the only reason why not to..

I suggest you set up a test J! 1.5 site and check out the back end..

my initial question was about staying in the 1.x arena not going to 1.5x. I have stayed where I am for now until I get some more questions answered and get some other things working on my site.

I like wise am fairly new to Joomla nad have been just tinkering with 1.013 for about a year now. As I am learning, there always seems to be a new upgrade available just as I am feeling my way and that goes for extensions as well such as the CB modules.

This all becomes a bit bewildering as you are not sure what to upgrade when and whether certain upgrades are necessary and whether extensions will or won't have conflicts. It appears you can end up making a lot more work for yourself to take the upgrade path. But then again are we missing out on features/developments to stay where we are.

Using at 1.013 does anyone know whether I have to upgrade to 1.015 before I go to 1.5 and how much longer is version 1 going to be around? It seems there is a push for everyone to migrate to 1.5 or am I just imagining this? It pretty confusing to those of us who are new to the game.

Hi,
Have you looked at:
http://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_upgra ... la!_1.5%3F
There is a push to 1.5, as in about 6months there will be no 'official' support for the older versions...

I read it just now thanks. I think I'm going to work on getting up to 1.5. the books I have are for 1.5 and I've heard that 1.5 is easier to manage. I just want to be really careful about the migration and backing everything up.

Just when I was starting to get the damn thing to work, now I have to go and toss myself under the bus. I'm a sucker for punishment.

whats the advantage of going to .015 then 1.5?? What makes it easier? I have been reading from .013 there is the 2 part migration. Using the migration tool / component then doing the 1.5 install. Are there issues with this?

There are issues with upgrading full stop - but doing it from the latest version will make things more likely to happen....
