Joomla 1.0.15 site down after Rochen upgrade to PHP 5.3
Any help would be appreciated. I am running the following:
Joomla site: 1.0.15
Virtue Mart: 1.0.15
My hosting provider Rochen upgraded to PHP 5.3 today and nowe we have the following issues:
1) Blank pages on some pages
2) When select contact us page you get this error:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare quoted_printable_encode() in /home/tailgate/public_html/includes/vcard.class.php on line 74
I need some guidance, hopefully not having to upgrade to 1.5 or 1.6 to fix this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,
You will need to upgrade to Joomla 1.5 or 1.6 most likely. There is the possibility that you could have someone troubleshoot and upgrade the code portions that are not compatible with PHP 5.3, but that would likely be more expensive than just upgrading the site.

I am also having the same problem...does anyone know what portion of the code needs changing so that I can at least get my site up and running?

Re: Joomla 1.0.15 site down after Rochen upgrade to PHP 5.3
Most google results I've found certainly recommend the 'best practice' solution of upgrading your Joomla installation to Version 1.5 or 1.6.
Obviously that's not always practical, nor optimal for keeping a site up and running. I know that usually there's a redevelopment project associated with an upgrade from a Joomla 1.0 site to a latest version.
So, after inadvertently upgrading my PHP to 5.3 last Thursday, I've scoured the net to find some solutions to fix the few 1.0 sites I had break.
Tips on fixing Joomla 1.0 to work in PHP 5.3 - http://www.kpsystems.com.au/fixing-joom ... p-53x.html
At this time, there's just two files to modify that then fixes most problems with the core. Other components are going to be on a case by case basis. As I encounter more issues and resolve them, I'll be adding them to the solutions page.

The solutions at http://www.kpsystems.com.au/fixing-joom ... p-53x.html specifically fix both these errors.

And there are plenty of hosts still running the older version of PHP for comaptibiltiy with joomla 1.0. If your hosts breaks your site, abandon the host.

If your host has upgraded to php 5.3.x to keep with the times (as it should - for security, functionality and compatibility with new technology) and it breaks your site, and you can't figure out how to fix it, and it's a Joomla 1.0 site, and the solutions I've outlined haven't fixed your issues (have worked for 8 people so far based on blog comments), and contacting your hosting provider for assistance doesn't reap results, and you can't be bothered upgrading to Joomla 1.5, or ideally Joomla 1.7, then sure, go look for a new host...beededea wrote:And there are plenty of hosts still running the older version of PHP for comaptibiltiy with joomla 1.0. Best practice says it's time to upgrade to 1.7 to future proof your site.

Re: Joomla 1.0.15 site down after Rochen upgrade to PHP 5.3
If you do have to upgrade, 1.5.23 is probably the safest bet as it is very stable and the majority of extensions work with it. Personally I would not upgrade to 1.7 but let it all ride until 2.5 comes out.
Regarding 1.0 - whilst agreeing with Partic above, there are CMS based upon 1.0 that are supported and if you are running 1.0 on a good, stable and secure host there is still no real need to upgrade unless as he says, the supporting technologies stop working entirely! Realistically, that won''t happen for a while yet. My 1.0 sites just work.
