Upgrade of 1.0.13 + checking for malware

Post by Cassini99 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 10:48 am

Hi there,

I've been asked to help with a friend's website backup and having never done this before I want to make sure I get it right first time.

So that I'm clear, can somebody please confirm the following for me.

- I can upgrade from 1.0.13 to 2.5 but have to do so incrementally
- It's advisable to scan the site for malware/exploits before I start the upgrade and patching

Ideally what I need here is a couple of pointers on where to start. I understand it's best practice to upgrade while offline, and also to capture the database first.

Can somebody point me to a DIY guide or perhaps even a single thread with all this information in? Unfortunately I'm lacking time and whilst I'm not going to rush this I don't have as much time as I would like.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Many thanks

There's no simple upgrade path from Joomla 1.0 to 2.5 but rather a migration from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5 and then a migration from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 or 3.x.

I probably wouldn't scan for malware unless I was aware of a specific problem.

You can find some instructions at:

http://docs.joomla.org/J1.5:Migrating_f ... 1.5_Stable

and

http://docs.joomla.org/J2.5:Migrating_f ... Joomla_2.5

Note that the Joomla 1.0 migrator can still be downloaded from:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 5#p2990436

I personally haven't had much luck with jUpgrade and prefer SP Upgrade for Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 migrations.

Depending on the complexity of the original website, it might be easier to build a new website and transfer the content manually.

Good luck!

Neil
