I did the upgrade from 1.0.5 to 1.0.7 and now I can't install any new component (Installers - Components). The follow message appears:

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, myemail@email.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Can I cancel the updating or fix this bug?  Thanks!

If you are running with SEF on, try disabling it to see if that changes anything.

If everything works with SEF off, then we need to discover what is casuing the problems

Is SEF Search Engine Friendly located in Global Configuration SEO? I turned it off and it didn't work. I have got the same problem: I cannot install or uninstall any new component.  :(

Do you have proper 'write' access to folders.

Check
System -> System Info -> Permissions tab to check if you can write to all the folders you need to.

I think so...

For all Joomla! functions and features to work ALL of the following directories should be writeable:
administrator/backups/ Writeable
administrator/components/ Writeable
administrator/modules/ Writeable
administrator/templates/ Writeable
cache/ Writeable
components/ Writeable
images/ Writeable
images/banners/ Writeable
images/stories/ Writeable
language/ Writeable
mambots/ Writeable
mambots/content/ Writeable
mambots/editors/ Writeable
mambots/editors-xtd/ Writeable
mambots/search/ Writeable
media/ Writeable
modules/ Writeable

Could be your .htaccess -- rename them to something else and test to see if it works?

The site is running, but I can't install or uninstall any component... the problem persists and I have no idea how to fix this problem... I will wait for new upgrades, maybe a 1.0.8 or 1.1

Hi daniloap, I think I might just have figured this out, well for my case in any event;

Though I thought the problem could not be caused by permissions (as I set them all to CHMOD777 for test)  my server config was not too happy causing Internal server errors, and this has something to do with CGI config rather than Joomla.

So the simple solution for me was to CHMOD 755 files in /root and /admin rather than 777; Strange but true, perhaps someone could shed some light on why.

Hope this helps

Johan

I don't know if this applies to you efrog, but servers running phpsuexec won't tolerate 777 permissions.  They also don't need it as other servers do.

The way to tell if you have this is to use a filemanager that is on the server to look at the owners of the files.  If you use control panel, its filemanager will generally let you see who owns a file.  You will need to find a file that was installed via the web interface (not FTP) like a component or module you installed, and see who the file owner is.  If it is the same as your account name, then your server is running phpsuexec.  It runs the PHP under the user who owns the account rather than the more typical user 'nobody'.

Dani, if you are on a shared host, you probably have a /cgi-bin directory which contains a test script (run it...) if it gives you an error, report that to your ISP, whatever they do to fix the CGI will most likely sort out your joomla headaches... Good luck !
