Joomla! flickr material

Post by ibnhafsun » Wed Mar 28, 2007 11:24 am

Is someone from the M&M Team collecting all the pics posted at flickr? AFAIK there are several groups, including Joomla!days, and those pics would be a valuable resource in a near future.

I mean something like a media repository, with classified pics and the proper permission to use in M&M materials...

What's wrong with Flickr? It is a repository. The community can contribute. It has tags that the original person can define - and others can augment. Image owners select their licensing, thus defining usability. Why invent more work and create another repository that is out of date as soon as it is created? This is working, IMO. We just need to keep pointing people in this direction!

Nothing is wrong with flickr: it´s just an external resource with more pros than cons.

I was not asking for a place to post pics. My question was if someone of the M&M WG is at the charge of asking. collecting and classifying those pics for M&M purposes.

IMO it´s easier now than would be the next year. And it´s the way some M&M departments work.

Do you really expect an answer from the M&M group. Hasnt the experience fo this forum shown that you wont get one.

I suspect this post will be deleted soon or te thread will be locked.

Wow.

#1 - as it turns out, we don't really need any more good ideas - we need strong backs. If it's easier to do now and you think it's a great idea, do it and offer it to the community.

#2 - asking a question is one thing, repeatedly asking the same question over and over and over is harassment.

#3 - why are you here? what are you trying to accomplish? how would you feel if others were constantly and openly evaluating your every move? you are not "the boss" - you don't get to require an answer or that things be done as you prefer.

I am ashamed to have responded to the original question. If this is just an attempt at negativity, I want no part of it. I am proud of Joomla! and the progress that has been made and of where we are going.

I'm turning notify off on this thread.

We don't actually have any usage rights for most of the images you mention as they were taken by private persons, not in an official capacity, such as those taken by Amy(who I'm sure would let us use them if we asked nicely). So to date we have not been collecting them as they are not our to collect.

Thanks for the reply, manuman.

I´ve seen the new repository for events and some material with different licenses.

We're still in the very early stages of putting material in there. And its not going to be the final way to access the contents. Very much a work in progress.
