Over the years many of our clients have been requesting an easy way to manage the content on their website.
X-CMS has been designed to solve this problem. Over nine years of experience has gone into our current edition of X-CMS. We conform to open source standards and have put together the set of tools that gives you control over your website.

This "X-CMS" is just an unmodified Joomla with the logo and name replaced...is that allowed, or are they breaking a law?

Would have to see their licensing to know this.
But their site is Joomla-branded...

I'm sure the license is GPL, and the copyright in the code comments is probably left intact, but that's not the point - the point is they are deliberately misleading people into believing that they wrote the CMS themselves, taking the credit for Joomla. Surely that is a breach of copyright or something?

Edit:

Here is another interesting quote from their site...

As a user that would lead me to believe that they are the ones that created the system... but thats just an opinion...

Anyhow.... moving along for now ... :)

Not sure if its allow by joomla or no but even if it would be allow bc it says its open source I would think that its very Sad to do like this. Displaying the Genuine Joomla Logo on your website is more better to get trust then changing it to ABC and XYZ......
Name Joomla is the Best.
Thanks

Hi,

Quoted this from the Meta from the Source:

Quote:
<meta name="Generator" content="Joomla! - Copyright (C) 2005 - 2006 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved." />

And it even looks like on of the 1.0 Branches ...

Cheers
Pete

Refreshing the subject, I stumble upon a Dutch webcompany, that rebranded Joomla as their own work, and as a part of their general conditions, "their software may not be made public, multiplied,or given to a 3rd party".

They've strike out all Joomla-messages etc, but it's dmn sure it's J!.

We've all written J! in GPL, and now some company runs away with it.

Could 'mom' or OSM advise on this, in my opinion, misuse of J!.

looking forward to your comments,
Jan Willem

Feel free to email me the details and I will pass it on to the OSM people.

Thanks.

Anyone is allowed to rebrand Joomla as long as they leave the copyright information in the source files and license their distribution using the GPL.

I think this statement is false.
How could I take product, rename it, and sell on my server to customers even if I leave copyright in source files intact?

How? You just do it and hope your customers don't read the source files.
I personally suggest, however, that you will be even better off letting your customers know it is Joomla! since it is a well respected world wide brand.
