Post subject:  ArtioSEF Meta Tags?

Hello,

I have installed ARTIO SEf and am happy with it. No problems. :)

However, I did a site report card check that measures various onsite factors for SEO and the home page meta tags were adding the article meta-tags from the front page - creating a massive meta-tag that comes across as a spam meta-tag.

Is there a setting or a way to prevent this?

Thank you.

:)

There is field in meta tags generator like:
JoomSEF SEO by Artio (http://www.artio.net), sponsored by Prague Hotels (http://www.traveliana.com)." />

This is kind of SPAM so is there any way to remove this [censored]? i'd be glad if there was only JoomSEF SEO by artio, but PRAGUE HOTELS?

You could use MetaTags NX to get better control of your keywords.

YO Neils, i found it!

It's pretty simply but, it's hard when you get into the code

So, here's the answer:
Go to includes/frontend.php
Look just below half way down for the comment
Code:

/**
* Assembles head tags
*/

Around 12 lines down, you will see a group of lines all starting with $mainframe->

Find this line:
$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'Generator', $_VERSION->PRODUCT . ' - ' . $_VERSION->COPYRIGHT);

should be commented with //

like:
Code:
//$mainframe->addMetaTag( 'Generator', $_VERSION->PRODUCT . ' - ' . $_VERSION->COPYRIGHT);

and it works! :)

The following describes an alternative approach, which avoids hacking the Joomla core:

Artio will let you set up custom tags for each page, including the home page

open up artio in the back end and goto
View/Edit Custom Redirects

in the list, find the url that you want to edit the tags for, click on it or check it and click edit on the top right, you will see the boxes where you can enter your custom tags tags

you may have to clear the cache for them to show when you are done. I do this all of the time. :)

And I was about to donate to this guy a sum of dollars. Oh well! Sly tactics like this deserve to be binned and the person ignored.

Face it! You released as open source? You should honor that! People work hard compiling websites for themselves and for employees. They bring together the best of open source and attempt to create communities and employment for others. To have any one of these websites "Sponsoring a bloody hotel in where the hell are you on the big map of the world?" is rude, obtrusive and shameful! ARTIO if you cannot behave responsibly to others then charge for your product and see how many still use it and see how arrogant and hostile the demands for help will become!

I have made many donations for various projects and when I get paid I pass it around as much as I see fit. You save me time, I give you money! But not this time my friend!

the amazing thing is that if the artio people really understood the art of SEO, they would not do this.

these actually can cause a site to be penalized by google and others. Basic SEO rules
1) Links must not be hidden or embedded in code or comment tags, THIS IS A BIG NO NO :(
2) links must be relevant to the site and content that they link to or from to count.
