I have been getting an error message for a few months now when I try to upload new components.

Error 500 - Internal server error
An internal server error has occured!
Please try again later.

Everything else is working just fine. I am using 1and1.com for the hosting. I think that the problem happened around the time that they updated the 1and1.com servers but I am not sure. I have written 1and1 many times about this problem and they finally wrote me back stating that they could not help me with Joomla! programing.

I am using 1.0.15 and here is the System info if this will help you to help me with this problem:

I have the same issue but I noticed that if my record count in jos_components > 103, I can no longer access the component installed. If I'm at 103 and access the installer, that component installs properly but I can no longer access the installer for components.

My current host is 1and1, I do not see this behavior running Xampp or IIS locally

Running the jtspost utility returns:

Server Error 500 when trying to install a component when component count in table is >= 100
