Hi

I have just installed the suite looks awesome and the sdtep by step instructions to get it workign were great - many thanks !

It all works however when i climk on the flash player to play an mp3 it takes ages before the file starts to play. Any ideas why this might be? i wondered whether i need to configure something (i vaguely rememebr somebody saying something about altering the bitrate but dont know how to do that) or whether it is just my hosted server which is slow

anyway thansk for the help in advance

chris

Yeah, it's loading up that file. Check your server and Internet connection.

Thanks joseph tried on a different PC and started quicker so must just be the PC i used.

One final question My podcast seems to be working fine and has been submitted in itunes. I went to feedvalidator.org to check the feed and it says I have a few problems which need to be addressed mainly a missing GUID for each podcast episode and specifying language and explicit in iTunes (which I thought I had done when i submitted the feed in iTunes). How and where do I add a GUID for each episode.

I have attached the warning I get from feedvalidaor.org

Thanks

Chris

again awesome suite mate !

HI Joseph

your going to hate mate with all these questions.

I have anoher wee problem I was hoping you could help me with. I downloaded the dewplayer with the module and it was workign fine when i selected flashplayer in the settings. I thought I would change it to see what the "links" option looked like rather than flashplayer, however when I tried to change back to to flashplayer the player doesnt appear when I publish a new mp3 file. This is despite me changing the settings back to flashplayer - any ideas why the player is no longer showing ?  the player still appears for previous episodes of my podcast

thanks again

chris

The component should be adding the GUIDs: they're the links to your content items. Can you send a link to your feed?

Hi

here is the feed

http://www.trinitychurchperth.org/index ... &no_html=1

Its when i put it through feedvalidator.org that it is giving me the errors.

Also this is probably a iTunes problem not the component but although i specify an image for iTunes - it does not appear in iTunes. The feed appears in Itunes and i can eventually find it when i search for it but even after iTunes has updated the image never appears. - any suggestions? the image is 300px x 300px RGB jpg file

thanks
Chris

I tried to manually subscribe to your feed in iTunes and it came up okay. I know about the feed validation issues, these are a throwback to some of the original (non-valid) issues caused by iTunes specific tags. As far as the image goes, sometimes you have to wait it out.

Thanks for letting me know that!

There's something else I would like to check. When the podcast module is turned on, it shows a clickable image (podcast-mini2.gif)  that displays only a "The Webpage cannot be displayed" msg. This happens both in FireFox and IE, and on all the sites where the Suite is installed. Why's that?

Also, when I look at the podcast content (index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=7), I see "Notice: Undefined variable: link in /home/nash/public_html/cms/mambots/content/podcast.php on line 105".

Line 105 says,"$link .= '';" . How can I resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't follow; are you saying that the image doesn't appear or that when you follow the link to the image, you get the "webpage cannot be displayed" message? If it's the latter, make sure your cache directory is writable: it may be trying to read a file that isn't there.

Can you post a link to your site?

Hi,

No, the image itself appears fine; but the error appears when I click on it. You can see it here: http://www.nasha1.com/cms&nbsp; (podcast image is at the bottom of the left column). Click on the image - you should get an error.  cache folder is writable (chmod 777) and podrss20.xml  gets created without problems in there.

As for the 2nd error, I solved that by removing the dot after $link, ie instead of "$link .=", I used "$link ="

Not sure whether the dot was meant to serve any purpose. But the error is gone now.

I'm seeing your feed when I click it:

Also, this line of code is not in the copies of the suite that I distribute:

Code:
"$link .= '<embed src="'. $mosConfig_live_site .'/mambots/content/dewplayer.swf?son='. $paramarray[0] .'&autoplay=0&autoreplay=0" width="200" height="20" bgcolor="#FFF">';

..but glad it's working for you. :)

Hi,

I see the feed when I click on the Full Feed link in Firefox. When I click the podcast image, it says "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (pcast) isn't associated with any program."

In IE, clicking on the podcast image gives this msg:

"The webpage cannot be displayed

  Most likely cause:
Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.

  What you can try:
Search online for a program you can use to view this web content.
      Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page. "

The podcast image's link is:  pcast://www.nasha1.com/cms/index2.php?o ... &no_html=1

Click on it in firefox and IE and see what I mean. How can I solve this? Thanks.

Do you have iTunes installed? The pcast:// links are intended to launch iTunes.

That so!?

I had problems installing iTunes because of a previously installed version of QuickTime. Didn't realise that was the cause of the problem I'm facing. I suppose I'll have to figure out which registry entries to mess with to completely uninstall the old QT files.

Thanks for your useful replies.

Hello all,

I have just added this to the site I manage as a way to distribute the podcast.  I have followed the excellent and most welcome tutorial but have now found that I have the following text on the front page of my site:

Quote:
Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated - argument passed by value; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of [runtime function name](). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file. However, future versions may not support this any longer. in /www.b1gidea.co.uk/public_html/mambots/content/podcast.php on line 24

I have been in to the php file but have no idea what to do.  I am a Joomla newbie and would appreciate any help to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

On those two lines, remove the '&' from before $pParams. It's a bug appearing on some installations that will be removed in the next version.

Just wanted to say thanks.  I was having the same issue with Online Flash Quiz.  Scoured the forums, wound up here and jlleblanc's fix worked like a charm.  I was pretty funny actually.  I spent hours trying to find out why I was getting this error and in the end I had to delete one "&".  I feel so inferior sometimes. :P

How do you prevent the chimpmunk sound? I have used mono, constant and 32,96 and 128 bit rates and the audio streams to fast. How do I correct it?

Usually you can correct this by not using Variable Bit Rate encoding, but it sounds like you already tried a constant rate. Some of this has to do with the limitations of Flash.

I used WME and then the DBPower amp to encode to mp3. Any mp3 audio recorded you recommend?

I don't produce podcasts, but I've heard that Audacity is good.

Hey there, thanks for the suite, it looks fantastic.

Just a bizarre problem I'm having that I can't find answered anywhere - it's happening way back in the Manage Clips section.

I've put just a test MP3 in the right directory, and it's shown up in the manager without a problem. The issue I'm having now is, I can't add the article. Well, I can, but when I click Save it, well, doesn't, and I'm back to where I was before.

Same again with the Article Published cross, can't click on that to make it a tick. And of course the Found in Article just says "Publish within an article"

So, nothing seems to be doing the trick to actually put it into a content item.

Is there something stupid I'm doing that's making it not work? Kudos though, the rest seems to work okay - the module's on the front page and I swear it's just itching to go!

Thanks in anticipation of the assist - and for the suite too. Good work.

Sure am. Even if I don't edit it at all, or just stick a few characters after it, the same occurs.

I have noticed that it DOES update the RSS (check www.echozero.com.au to see what I mean), but the clip manager doesn't realise.

If you look at the RSS you'll see the attempts I've made.

While I'm pondering it, both the links point to the RSS feed..... can't seem to get the actual player to pop up without copying the link from the RSS, logging in, and pasting the URL into the address bar. Is there something else stupid I've missed to prevent that from happening?

Thanks for the UBER fast reply, you are a true gentleman.

Your enclosure tags all look like this:

Code:
<enclosure url="Mark" length="Knofler-" type="Sailing" />

If you have spaces in your filenames, take them out and republish.

This is a great module for generating an iTunes compatible Podcast feed.
I have my podcast submitted to iTunes and it was accepted without any problems so well done Joe!

From reading this topic it seems i had the same problem as many others when i installed 1.1 stable on my audio blog page on Joomla 1.0.12 all the audio files started playing automatically  so i was very happy when i came across this post which indicated a fix.

I installed the amended bot_plugin with dewplayer and was really impressed with the functionality and appearence in firefox, in internet explorer it is a different story though!

Dont know if anyone is having same problem as me, if you open my audio page
http://www.bethanybaptist.co.uk/audio
it opens fine in firefox but takes ages and ages if it even opens in internet explorer.

Hopefully someone else has come across this and can help out here.
Thanks in advance
Justin

Justin,

I opened it in IE and it doesn't seem to take that much longer than in FF
