Hi!

I just moved my website to another web hotel. The problem here is that when installing components, modules or mambots with the Joomla back end web interface, i loose ownership on the files, so i cannot chmod them or edit and save or delete them in any way.. and that's why some extensions fail to work also. So this company have to run some specially made script for me that they run manually when i ask them to, to make me the owner of the files again. Unfortunately i am working a lot with upgrading / editing and installing new components all the time, so i cant have it this way (i have only email support with this company and i cant wait for them so answer). So they asked me to install extensions using FTP because this should solve the problem they told me, but i have never done that before and cannot figure out how either.. found no forum posts that made me understand how to do this.

I am using Joomla 1.0.15 and safe mode is off.

Is there anyone that could help me understand how i do this? Or assist me in finding forum post that explain this in great details?

The previous web hotel i had was using SuPHP, so this was not a problem

Thanks so much for any help!

Also did send you the answer on WHT:

You will find the answer here: http://docs.joomla.org/Screen.installer.15

In short:

Quote:
Install from Directory
Create a temporary directory on your hard drive and decompress the compressed package into it, then with FTP you can upload the files and directories of the package into a directory on the server. Then in the Install Directory field specify the directory where you have uploaded the files and directories of the package. After that click on the Install button and Joomla! automatically installs the content of the given directory. You can read a message about the success of the procedure. If you get an error message, read it thoughtfully and make any required correction.

Hope this helps you.

Actually, i did try this with Joomla 1.0.15, and the component was installed successfully, but still the files and folders are owned by "nobody" so i cannot edit, delete, copy anything in the installed component.. So this did not solve my problem. Any other suggestions?
