I am not familiar with myjspace however, as to the part of your question about chmod 777 the folder, this is a file permission. New directories can be chmod in the in the following menu;

site>global configuration>server tab

scroll down to the bottom and you will see the area that deals with chmod on the server.

with that said...BE CAREFUL...you are giving read, WRITE, access to everything in that folder with chmod=777. I would really consult someone with much more experience than me before doing any of this. This goes to the core of security for your site.

good luck...remember I have only given you enough information to be dangerous...really consult someone who knows.

I just had a look at myjspace. It is basically asking you to crete a folder in the joomla root of your site. Normally your server will be set up like

root>public_html>yoursitename>joomla installation

this way, you can have multiple joomla sites running from the same server, each one being in its own directory. I would suggest that you check out a component call joomlaexplorer, this gives you access to all your files on the server from the back end. It makes it easy to access your whole directory without bouncing around from tab to tab through an FTP client.

Hope this helps
