I think the answer is no.

Just set up article submission pages in Joomla 1.5 using it's own ability to do that.

Use JCE's file/image manager to upload images.

You may find what you need in the Article Factory Manager, which appears to be a quality commercial extension:
http://softmarket.ro/article-submission-in-joomla
http://www.thefactory.ro/shop/joomla-co ... nager.html

Are you sure jpSubmissionary had a feature to allow Authors to self-publish articles? I don't see it mentioned here:
http://www.bestofjoomla.com/component/o ... Itemid,54/

JA Submit is the precursor to Submissionary. There are several other variants of it, but none for Joomla 1.5 that I've seen. The onlv version in active development is Ninja Super Submit:
http://ninjaforge.com/index.php?option= ... Itemid=235

I don't think any of these have the author-who-can-publish-himself function you are looking for. These are all J! 1.0 extensions only.

You could ask Ninja Forge about their plans for Super Submit. They are trying to set up ways for individuals and groups to sponsor or co-sponsor development of requested features in their extensions.

I have tried all these components, apart from Article Factory Manager,
and can confirm that jpSubmissionary has the ability to auto aprove user
groups. Unfortunatelly it's only for 1.0x and the porting to 1.5x, although
promissed long ago, dosen't seem to be going anywhere.

On the side note, the lack of suitable article submission component has been
holding me back from upgrading to joomla! 1.5x.

I have end users submit articles all the time, using core J1.5 and JCE.

Maybe I"m missing something. Just make them an author and away you go

@normdouglas: admins have to approve Authors' articles for publication. The feature md54 wants is a way to have front-end users who can write, edit, and publish their own articles--and ONLY their own articles. Stupidly, Joomla does not allow this--a legacy of its pre-web2.0 foundations.

viewtopic.php?t=26169

I have never tried out JCE's groups function, but my understanding is that this will have no effect on the approval process. It is just a way to define who gets what features in JCE. Right?

Sorry you are correct... so why not just make them a publisher... not sure I understand the issue?

Because publishers can edit and publish ANY article, not just their own. Too much power.

Authors can only edit their own articles... so just make the JCE published by default... I have done this before... I will find the answer for you

I knew I had seen it before. This hack works perfectly.

WARNING!

Hacking any core Joomla files is done at your own risk, and may become non-functional when you next upgrade Joomla

Hello

I have one question.

Is it possible to have those tabs: Images, Publishing, Metadata? I was trying to find the part of the code to 'hack it' but have no clue what i should input to get those tabs.

Thanks.

I have found a new way to allow authors to self-publish and/or edit their drafts, neither of which is possible with Joomla out of the box:

JshUrContent
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... 91/details

The inability of authors to edit their drafts was the subject of a "white paper" post here on improving Joomla...

There is also the CamelCity component for listing and editing content on the frontend.

On second thought, CamelCity is not in very good shape. It allows users to delete content items which do not go in the trash; they are just gone. This feature is supposed to be one you can turn off, but the switches do not work.

I see it is possible with Chronoforms (and probably other form extensions) to create custom content submission forms. Subsequent editing permissions are another issue. Prior to Joomla 1.6, ZOO, K2, and the pages-and-items content manager may be solutions.

JA Submit only works with Joomla 1.0. Both are obsolete, developmentally dead, and unsupported by the original developers. Time to upgrade. Joomla 1.6 is coming.
