Haven't tried YANC yet, but the icons sure look nice ;)
One question: which version of YANC is this based on?
Thanks

Been working on the CSS tonight - very weird thing - even though the XML installation file was correctly referencing the file - I couldn't get it to upload the actual CSS file, just the folder - very strange. I finally gave up and put the style references directly into the file. Hate to give up like that though :)

So the icons are now centered and w/ a little box around them - I think they look a bit smoother.

Image

It's based on the most recent - 1.4 Beta 3

Try it out http://www.instaspanish.com/joomla_tools and let me know what I can do to improve it! I'll be working on some front end stuff next - including working out some Community Builder kinks I'm finding. I also may take on some other components and try to make them a bit more graphical - let me know if there are any suggestions for ones to look at first.

Stace,

Can I suggest you get in contact with the YaNC developer and let him know what you're doing. I suspect that he'd be very pleased to have that sort of graphical ability available to use in the component, and it would save having two versions of YaNC...

That's good advice - I already emailed them earlier today, as I wouldn't want them to think I'm trying to hijack their great component. Just giving it a badly needed facelift  8)

Gracias - would love to see some more Yanc features!

Particularly,

1- more advanced configuration for IMPORTING lists (right now Yanc automatically sends a confirmation email to everybody you try to import - which is just awful for people like me w/ a 6100 member list of people who opted in long ago, and don't want to be annoyed or confused by another need to register!)

Also the unsubscribes - I'm not sure how Yanc handles this - but it doesn't look to be automated. I want a fully automated system that allows both bounces and unsubscribes to be dealt with a logged - I couldn't tell how exactly Yanc does this - but then I didn't exactly read through the entire PDF...

Scheduling: - right now Yanc just lets you write 1 newsletter at a time per list - and once it's gone - it's moved to archives (which wasn't even working correctly....) - so if you wanted to use that as a template, you're out of luck. And if you're going on vacation but want to schedule a mailing in advance - Yanc can't do it yet.

I'm sure I have lots of other complaints - just testing it out at the moment. I couldn't even try it w/ the navigation before I added the graphical menu - caramba.

Let's see if we can combine some of the features found in other things - and turn Yanc into something great!

Yes, that's something on my list :)

At this point, the only way unsubscriptions are handled is by including a link at the bottom with a page where people can unsubscribe. An automated system is certainly something i would like, but this is a pretty technical process which will not be easy to include.

Also, scheduling mailings will require some server requirements for it work correctly. A load previous mailing function is also something i want to include :)

Could you check whether all of your feature requests are at the tracker at the developer page? http://developer.joomla.org/sf/projects/yanc

Submit them if they're not there yet. Could you also join our forum: http://www.joomlastuff.org/component/op ... id,40/c,3/

It's a bit easier to structure discussion there :)

I like your idea's, keep them coming :)

Hola Adam - I definitely will!

My newsletter is a big part of my business - and I've used a service for a couple of years now that offers the features I mentioned (actually I've used 2 - both were free up to 1000 subscribers). Perhaps I can help out by figuring out a little how these systems are doing it - and seeing if there isn't some code to be had out on the Open Source market that can be iincorporated into Yanc.

You've built a nice system - just needs a few extras!

warm wishes
Stace

Your reviews are great - thanks for all the work you all do.  BTW have you guys thought about doing a donation button on your homepage? I don't know if people actually use them - but I would definitely have donated to your site by now - considering how much time I've spent on it.

Is there a quick hack to import a user list in YaNC and setting their status by default on 'confirmed'?

The hack I used was not that exactly quick - and I'm still not sure if the database tables are how they should be.

I downloaded FQ Multicorreos - you can find that in earlier posts on this thread.

Install that comp, then you can import all your subscribers and it sets them automatically to confirmed.

Then you can export the relevant database table fields that match up w/ corresponding fields - over to your Yanc subscribers table. Presto all the users show up in Yanc as confirmed. You may have to manually update the list_id - and maybe something else too - I couldn't get the list to send yet - although the subscribers do now show up in Yanc.

Thanks!
Another question, is there a sort of patch from yanc to your graphical yanc component or do i have to replace all the files?

That's a good point - as so far I've only modified admin files in a small way - and if you have Yanc 1.4 Beta 3 - overwriting the existing files should be all that needs to be done to upgrade to Graphical Yanc.

You can just copy the
images folder
in the admin (the CB integration file is also included in the codehacks folder) - as well as

admin.yanc.php
admin.yanc.html.php
toolbar.yanc.php
toolbar.yan.php.html

I'll upload a new file now here -
http://www.instaspanish.com/joomla_tools
if you don't mind letting me know if that works - in which case I'll upload that to my site and take off the full package, which people don't really need (waste of bandwidth ;) 8)

If you're interested in internationalisation, I've attached the admin.yanc.php file with the words under the icons in Dutch. No big deal ofcourse, but if people really want a Joomla site with YaNC and with your Graphical YaNC and in their own language without having to see one line of php or html, they should be able to have it ;-)

PS in Safari the bottom line of the box disappears, but it works fine in Firefox (Mac).

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hey great! If you don't mind I'll upload that to the developer.joomla site for "Graphical Admins" - which is found here

http://developer.joomla.org/sf/sfmain/do/viewProject/projects.graphical_admins

and my Flyspray bug tracker - which can be used to submit new ideas as well as bugs - is here

http://www.instaspanish.com/wrapper/bug_tracker/

I'm glad you've enjoyed the graphical yanc! I've been thinking of doing a "most popular components" menu - where you'd have quick access to the main functions of your main components.  I use these things all day long and find that the current component menu is very cumbersome. I want it to be customizable though - and I'll need to do some coding in order to achieve that. We'll see!

Stace,

Need some quick info, what exactly are the differences and important features that com_fq doesn't have that yanc 1.4.3 beta has???

biggest problem com_fq had was that it wouldn't send any email  - I didn't really get much past that!

I'll take a look at it later -I have it installed on my development server - not my life one  - but the developent server is Apache on OS X Tiger and sends php mail just fine.

Hmmnnn... http://www.brutalidadtotal.com did not set up a bugtracker or forum for the released component. I've tested the com_fq on 4.5.1 and it worked fine. The live site test is on Linux Apache using php mail.

Will test it on 4.5.2.x's and Joomla soon. I'm trying to translate this to english and clean up the code but the code for com_fq is in spanish, are you sure this is a yanc hack?

Adam, have you taken a look at this com_fq? I'm testing yanc 1.4 beta 3 but I haven't seen the template feature yet.

And Stace, Graphical Yanc has no link to the template feature indicated in the YANC 1.4 beta 3 features list.

I linked to everything Yanc had listed on their components menu - templates wasn't one of them. Actually, FQ_Multicorreos did have a template feature. I just assumed it was a Yanc fork because the layout is similar for the config.

So you think we'd be better off starting w/ FQM as a starting base rather than Yanc? Hmm I wonder what my email trouble was. I think I'll do another devlopmental version of everything on my PC later - I don't want to mess w/ my live version right now as I've got it pretty loaded up and I've found the components section to be pretty quirky as it is! Something to do w/ permissions - my installer keeps getting broken - to where it gives me a bunch of gobbly gook when I go to install or uninstall - then if I change the permissions to almost nothing on the administrator/components/com_whatever_I_just_installed  - then I can install and uninstall fine - it's a weird situation and it leaves me only wanting to install components there that I know I'll use!

I'm pretty busy this weekend dealing w/ e-commerce issues but I'll revisit this stuff again later. I do speak Spanish - if you want to give me a list of words you're needing translated I'd be happy to take a crack at it.

Ah I wanted to clarify - I'm all Joomla - 1.0.3 - no mas Mambo aqui :) - so it was on Joomla on Apache on a MAMP version on OS X Tiger where the php mail has worked fine for other stuff - that the FQM mail wouldn't send.

I love the FQM subscriber import though!!

1 more problem w/ FQM:

Evertime you go to your Users list - it re-imports the people from your Mambo users - whether they've registered for a newsletter or not. I found that really frustrating. Even if you delete them via phymyadmin - they keep popping back up.

There's no way to manage unsubscribes with a system like that.

I have partial funding for a bridging project between PHPlist and Joomla.  I need more funding and a willing developer/programmer.

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,30369.0.html

phil taylor, would you be interested in this project?

I'm not happy with my new newsletter component. mosListMessenger (mLM) has several features I appretiate, but I can't get it running. I have two problems:

BLANK PAGE
My installation is clean. Only Joomla 1.0.7, a template, joomlaXplorer and mLM. The admin modus workis fine, but when it comes to accepting the subcribers input, nothing happens. The user gets a blank page when he clicks the OK button.

PLEASE WAIT ...
I only get "Sending messages. Please wait..." when I try to send messages to a group. No mails are sent at all.

Maybe someone has encounted the same problems?

moslistmessenger looks cool and more organized than all the other ones out there but charging money for silly components is not something I support for the most part.  The main reason being, the components are never 100% and as a product, we should not be purchasing beta versions or half ass versions.  There should be a rule that a component/module should not be released until ALL bugs have been tested and removed.  This may sound like a high standard but there's zero reason for a bug to exist if the developer tested it throughly in joomla.  I've experienced bugs with at least 5 different newsletter components enough to make them not worth using what a joke.  Perhaps a paid component will be better ? Perhaps not, not planning on wasting $$ to find out. I think all components should be donation only, if it's really really good then we should throw some $$ to support it.   If it's crap then we should throw crap instead
