I have an independent website that I moved 6 months ago to a folder in another website

This current website consiisted of 2 Joomlas
one directly in public_html
one in a lower order folder, public_html/folder1

Just upgraded today - the main one from 1.0.11 to 13, the other one from 12 to 13
the one in public html works fine - in 11 and in 13

the one under folder1 has this particular problem, under 11 and also under 13

if you click the READ MORE... menu under an article, you will get a 404
this has been going on for 6 month and I do not know what to do
Fortunately it is a low traffic testing website, however I need to really solve this issue after 6 months

any helping hand for a poor soul?

Any SEF or Advanced SEF component used ? Do you have any .htaccess in root or that folder

Maybe copy the URLs (without domain name will do) here, so URL that we'll examine is the page, then the link for Read More.

;)

Thanks Will for your questions

ON SEF:
no, I do not think I have that SEF thingy, do not even know what SEF is.

On HTACCESS
Yes, I check and found htaccess.txt both in public-HTML and also in folder1

a sample of the URL are below
http://www.apakabar.ws/indoforums/ - all the READ MORE are followed by 404
http://apakabar.ws = all the READ MORE are working fine

Joomla in root directory doesn't have SEF / advanced SEF... so the links accessed and are not translated

Quote:
apakabar.ws/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1538&Itemid=1

While Joomla in indoforums' folder links are translated
Quote:
apakabar.ws/indoforums/mainpage/berita/mogei-swordman---bagian-1/3.html

apakabar.ws/indoforums/mainpage/berita/hiangphek-tauwtoo-satoe-harian-sintjhia-satenga-abad-jang-silem.html

For indoforums, you've advanced SEF component installed and it's enabled.

Check Admin - Components, it's probably listed as:

sh404SEF
Artio SEF
Advanced SEF
or something like that,

You can have it disabled temporarily, and it should work again, although your links will be similar like root one's

Check out id-joomla.com where Indonesian's Joomlaers share their expertise.

Frankly I am lost when you mention SEF.
I saw 1 mambot called SEF, but this is unpublished

Then I browsed inside indoforums folder and found com_SEF folder

What should I do tho disable it? Shall I change the code? Frankly my programming knowledge is a big zero so be patient with me pls

Thank you very much!

Try login to:

/indoforums/administrator/

then go to Components .

Do you see:

Quote:
sh404SEF
Artio SEF
Advanced SEF
or something like that,

That is the component that translates your URL to SEF URLs, and you need to find a way to disable that component, or

you can go to Admin - Installer - Components, and uninstall it.

More confused now :-)

Logging in into Joomla administrator or lgging in into my website control panel (public html etc)?

As joomla administrator, there is no such componernts

If I login into my website i can find this COM_SEF folder and inside there are these files:
google_opensef.xml 0 k 0644
google_opensef_index.xml 0 k 0644
index.html 0 k 0644
sef.php

are these the files I should disable?

How should I disable them, just by deleting all these files or?

Please do not bump topics in the forums.

Note that your page names end in .html. The only way to successfully accomplish that in Joomla is either through redirects in .htaccess or by using a third party SEF. Two things you can do. Go to the backend -> global configuration -> seo tab. Make sure that SEF and Dynamic Titles is off.

Copy your entire list of components and post it here for us to review.

Let's start over again

#1 Paste login to Joomla administrator then paste link below on your browser

apakabar.ws/indoforums/administrator/index2.php?option=com_installer&element=component

Search for option=com_sef, if you find one, click the radio button on the left, then uninstall it.

#2. Still from backend.

Site - Global Configuration | SEO tab

Disable (if it's set enabled) for Search Engine Friendly URLs:

Save it.

Links in Front end should work again.

Thanks for all the hints and comments:

I login as JOOMLA admin - login and find that this is the setting

Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Friendly URLs: No Yes (comment: This is already set to NO after Will's comment)
Dynamic Page Titles: No Yes tooltip ( I just turned this OFF as : dhuelsmann suggested - still 404)

The i check the installed components:

Could you share the list of mambots installed ?

Do you have .htaccess in root or in this folder ?

Make sure you disable cache when trouble shooting, in Admin - Global Configuration | Cache's tab - Caching: = No

There has to be an extension that translating your URLs and we need to disable that.

BTW, is this a new installation of J!, transferred from somewhere else or ???

There is an htaccess.txt in root and in indoforums folder (note: I do not really what this file is for)

This is not a new installation. It was moved from an independent website (indoforums.info) and then transpalnted into another website (apakabar.ws in the indoforums folder)

I also have disabled the apakabar.ws joomla SEF and yes, all the caching set to NO

I'd suggest temporarily fix/trouble shoot by renaming com_sef's folder to something like com_sef_old in:

/components
AND
/administrator/components

Make sure you're renaming the folders in /indoforums/ NOT in your root's folder.

I guess this is caused by corrupted transfer from indoforums.info, if not files then database.

You might be able to verify this by checking the total of files/size OR total of tables in database between the two.
