Info on Joomla CMS tags

Hi

I'm planning to move an alumni site I admin from Dragonfly to Joomla - installation was a breeze but as you can appreciate I'll need to create a templete in the appropriate colours etc. I've got the two template books I found available but as a total newbie to css stylesheets I was wondering whether there is any documentation on what css tags control what in the joomla setup (I need be able to change background colour of various modules / template panels.

If I've missed something obvious then I'm sorry but I have spent a week experimenting so far and any help on this would be appreciated.

It can be hard to find hiding away on the dev site rather than the help site

Thanks for that Brian.  I'll have a read through that and have another go.....

Just out of interest is it just me who has to scroll down the pages in joomla org to find the content or is this a general problem?  Currently whilst the menus are fine  the content appears at the bottom of the right hand side not the top.  (Only wondered as all that scrolling is placing excessive work on my wrist. )  Doesn't apply to the forums by the way.
