AllVideos Plugin v2.0: THE all-in-one video management solution

Post by fotisevangelou » Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:20 pm

*** Version 2.0 is out now featuring over 30 (!) video providers and OWN VIDEO STREAMING FROM YOUR SERVER! ***

DOWNLOAD from http://www.joomlaworks.gr

Truely an all-in-one video management solution for Joomla!, the AllVideos Plugin gives you the ability to easily embed online streaming videos inside your content (content items) as well as your own videos uploaded on your server. No HTML for you or your clients! Just place a tag inside your content like {[youtube]}374536{/[youtube]} or {flv}company_presentation{/flv} (when using videos from your server) and you're done, with no HTML hassle at all!

You have 2 options, while using the AllVideos Plugin:
- You can use, for example, [youtube] to upload your videos and then embed them inside your site without consuming your server's bandwidth or having to spend money on expensive video conversion software!
- Or you can now upload any type of video content (yes, you read correctly, any type) and stream/play your video content by using simple tags!
So besides being easy, the AllVideos Plugin is smart, cheap and now flexible content streaming for you!

To wrap up the features, on version 2.0 we have:

1. Over 30 video providers, including regional Google Video websites.
2. Own video content streaming, for every possible video format (.flv, .swf, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .rm etc.).
3. No "click to activate" problems for IE and Opera users anymore, since an EOLAS patch has been incorporated! Don't know what this is? Check these sites for more: ZDNet and eWeek.
4. You can use your own "click to play" text or even image logo for Flash Video streaming from your server.
5. Master controls provide layout consistency on all the videos shown in your Joomla! website.
6. A CSS class has been added to manipulate the way videos are displayed through your template's CSS file. Handy for achieving different layouts on different categories/sections.
7. A "master" local video folder for storing your videos and displaying them with simple tags, like {mov}my_trip_to_hawaii{/mov}.

Supported third-party video providers as of version 2.0 are:

- Google Video International ( http://video.google.com/ )
- Google Video Deutchland (Germany) (http://video.google.de/)
- Google Video Espana (Spain) ( http://video.google.es/ )

The AllVideos Plugin for Joomla 1.0.x is released under the GNU/GPL license

***CREDITS***

The development of the new AllVideos Plugin would have not been possible if these two people hadn't done such a remarkable work! We refer to Jeroen Wijering for his great work on the Flash Video Player (licensed under a Creative Commons License), the best FLV player on the web. The AllVideos Plugin v2.0 incorporates Jeroen Wijering's "Flash Video Player" for FLV playback, utilizing almost all of its advanced features. The second person is Gero Zahn, whose ingenious bot_gzNoClickToActivate Joomla! plugin (released under the GNU/GPL license) has been incorporated to the AllVideos Plugin v2.0, as the best "EOLAS patch" solution around the web.

We sincerely thank these two people for their contributions to the Open Source Software community.

Credits also go to the people that downloaded over 30.000 times the AllVideos Plugin (v1.0.x) and made it the no.1 "top rated" Joomla! extension. A sincere "thank you" to all these people!

And last, but not least, our translators and friends.
Luca Scarpa (italian), Bai Jianpeng (chinese), Manuel70 (spanish) and Luis E. Ribeiro (portuguese/brazilian).

Thanks guys!

Just installed the new plugin version after uninstalling version 1.1. But now it won't work. I get simply {google}theid#{/google} as text with no video. I made sure the plugin was published under Site Mambots.

Any help is appreciated!

You obviously haven't enabled the plugin, cause otherwise I would see the copyrights in source code view...

Please check again and report back!

Pardon my ignorance, but by "enable" do you mean that the Mambot is published in the Site Mambots list? It is, and checked as "publish" in the AllVideos Mambot control screen.

I also checked the database table containing the mambots and it is listed. I also reuploaded the php and xml files just in case and looked to make sure that the same files in the .zip were also on the server. still Nothing.

Please, do this. Go "inside" the plugin's admin page and save. Not just publish it directly from the plugins' list! OK?

We have upgraded AllVideos Plugin to version 2.1!

Why did we update? User feedback has been enormous and many people asked if we could add full audio support -MP3 was only missing actually!- to the plugin as well. So, the AllVideos Plugin now fully supports audio formats like .mp3 and .wma, with a separate "audio" folder, managed from inside the parameters. Nice for podcasting! The MP3 player uses the famous Flash MP3 Player by Jeroen Wijering (released under a Creative Commons License).

We have also made some small modifications regarding the plugin's settings (no need to "save once" after install to retrieve parameters correctly), some small changes to the documentation (for audio support) and last, but not least, we added a new video provider -Mofile TV- for our Chinese speaking users. You can download the latest version of AllVideos, at the "Downloads" section at:

www.joomlaworks.gr

Translations are coming soon in other languages.

This is a stable and well-tested version, but your feedback is as always very important!

Re: AllVideos Plugin v2.0: THE all-in-one video management solution

Post by tfuller » Sat Oct 07, 2006 12:15 am

Something apparently changed in the way AllVideos 1.1 worked as compared with 2.x.

We use a database to pull the video id and display. It worked fine in AllVideos 1.1. The text looks like this:

{google}{josaddphp:video.php}{/google}. The middle portion is replaced with a valid video id from our database and under 1.1 it appears as the video on the page. With 2.0 that doesn't happen and we end up with something like {google}-145839488388282{/google}.

Is there something in the code the way it looks for or handles the information between the two video tags that has changed that would make this kind of integration not work anymore?

I uninstalled 2.0 and reinstalled 1.1 and now our videos work as before.

http://www.livingwatersweb.com.

Thanks for taking this into consideration.

Yes, the code structure has changed totally and I guess in this case, causes problems. The only solution I can think of is that you put the mambot that add the php code in a "higher" position than the AllVideos. This would activate the "add php" mambot (plugin) first, create the id inside the content item and finally the AllVideos Plugin would convert that to the video code.

Check it out and report back.

Can you please also send me the .php file you used -if you want to of course- so that I might integrate it somehow in component for video management that we are preparing? This comp will use the AllVideos for playback.

Can you please provide a link to your website, so that I can see the problem?

Our website is: http://www.livingwatersweb.com. I at this point have reinstalled 1.1 so the problem won't show itself.

The video.php file is very simple:

The database funcationality comes from the page before, where Bible studies are listed and "video" is one of the fields generated on that page. So for an example video link:
http://www.livingwatersweb.com/index.ph ... =Luke%2014

The file that link opens has this content:

{google}{josaddphp:video.php}{/google}
{josaddphp:videodescription.php}

Videodescription.php has this code:
Pastor Tom Fuller - Calvary Chapel Newberg';
echo '';
echo $title;
echo " - ";
echo '';
echo $Scripture;
echo '';
?>

Adding the josaddphp "higher" might look like:
{josaddphp:video.php}{google}{/google} But then that wouldn't work because AllVideos wouldn't have the video id in the correct place.

If AllVideos could take a REQUEST variable that would certainly fix my problem. I know my original use of 1.1 was undocumented, I simply discovered that it worked.

The only solution I can think of is that you put the mambot that add the php code in a "higher" position than the AllVideos.
I did not mean, changing the tag order!!

I meant, go to the backend, open the list with the mambots and REORDER there, so that the "add php" mambot has a "higher" order number that the allvideos!! 2 is higher than 5, OK?

Did you understand what I'm talking about? This order defines the activation order of the mambots inside your site. If "add php" has a higher order it will be activated first, return the id, and then the allvideos would be activated, returning the video code...

You nailed it. Sorry that I didn't know what you meant. I didn't realize Joomla treated the order of plugins like that. Moving the josaddphp plugin above allVideos in the Site | Mambots list did the trick. I installed version 2.1 and it now works beautifully. Thanks for helping me out.

hello and thank you again for this great pluging, unfortunatelly i am having a little problem to make it work with large files,
in my video folder i have only avi files
first file of a little size, 6 meg or something works fine, no problem to view
second one that is 180 megs just appears are connecting and nothing else, i thought that since its on the server it will load almost momently, but it is not loading at all then my explorer got unresponding to any actions :(, its just a familly site where i would like to share our familly video with everybody,

is there something i did wrong?

the code is correct: such as {avi}moviename{/avi}

I guess I am having the same issues but I have not tried a smaller file. I have tried to insert a google one and that works, but any local content on the server just does not load.

I have followed the instructions to a "T" I believe yet nothing. Does size matter? (ok that sounds bad)

You have to understand the different "nature" of each video file format. AVI files are not meant to be streamed! That is why you "never" see the video! It's because it needs to download first, so imagine waiting for 180 mb to download on your page alone and in your browser's temp folder! Ha! On the other hand, .flv means progressive streaming. You watch the video as it downloads, you don't have to wait for it to load entirely to watch it!

That is why I recommend .flv or perhaps .mov (quicktime) streaming (flv is better). Use RivaVX (free) to compress your avi files and generate much smaller ones and in .flv format. Then upload the new files and display.

Have you checked that the video is uploaded in the correct folder (master video folder) and that this folder is properly set on the params?

well like I said I have the permissions set to 777 on the videos folder. I have tried to use a flv with no success but videos that are not located on the site work just fine. I have used google, ifilm and they work just fine.

What could be causing this?

Well, I can see now, that there IS an issue with FLV playback on IE, as reported by others too on the official forum of the Flash FLV Player, which the AllVideos Plugin uses to stream FLV content.

I will keep everyone posted on this, as things progress. If we have no solution on this, than I will simply find another player to do the job.

It's because:

1. You inserted the video filename with the extension when it's not needed. You only write:

Code: Select all

{flv}videos2006FireHighlights{/flv}
and that's it...

2. Have you defined the master video folder? If it's images/stories/video then you need to upload your video in this folder...

In some websites it works! But no in all...

So we are looking at it...

If within this week, no solution is found for the current flv player, than I will find some other.  :)
