The link is wrong:
Quote:
http://news.google.com/news?ie=UTF-8&q=%22marin+county%22+italian+-restaurant+-sports+-%22death+row%22+-catholic+-coroner&output=rss

But my hack chokes on all google feeds.
We have to wait for the help I asked for, sorry.

In the mambot parameters, you may enter a class definition which is going to be used for all elements in the presentation.

If you enter "klfeed", you will get the following kind of source (view source in the browser):
Code:

                                    <li class="klfeed">

            <tr>
               <td class="klfeed">

etc.

You then only have to define your CSS in your template_css.css file.

You seem to have an unbalanced
here... Certainly removing these withing the

improved my results...

Can someone give this noob some help with php?

I create a file called testpage.php  It contains this:

{kl_rssfeed}http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rss?p=new+york&ei=UTF-8&fl=0&x=wrt{/kl_rssfeed}
?>

When I access it, all I get is this:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /home/domains/mydomain.com/public_html/wrapper/testpage.php on line 2

What can I do to fix this?

the kl_rssfed mambot is designed to be used in a "content item", not as a standalone php file.

php5 works better than php4 (see above)

Are you doing everything right?
1. Publish the mambot
2. Edit a content item
3. Enter the following
{kl_rssfeed}http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rss?p=new+york&ei=UTF-8&fl=0&x=wrt{/kl_rssfeed}
save and test in front-end

Ah HA ! Now this is making to make sense!!!

Coudl you be more precise when you say:

2. Edit a content item
3. Enter the following
{kl_rssfeed}http://news.search.yahoo.com/news/rss?p=new+york&ei=UTF-8&fl=0&x=wrt{/kl_rssfeed}

What do you mean buy "Edit" ? I have treid to "create" a new item in the Main Menu and chosing Link-content or Link-Component but there is nowhere where I can enter what is on number 3...

Do I need to create a section and a category? I have a newsfeed menu already but there the newsfeed don't show
http://thainaids.byethost10.com/index.p ... s&Itemid=7

I am sure that I am not doing something simple but what?

Would you mind giving more details?

Thx
~R

Ok Something else I have tried, I just added an item to one of my category, and for description I used the text in 3 above and published it on the front page too and I get nothing... If I use the debug i get that: ( I have tried another rss feed in this example...)

Debug-KL_RSSFEED:
------

--
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline ... s.xmlArray ( [chtitle] => 1 [chdesc] => 1 [chsrc] => 0 [itemsrc] => 0 [image] => 1 [title] => 1 [desc] => 1 [item_one] => 0 [items] => 5 [word_count] => 100 [span] => 0 [cache] => 3600 [class] => [debug] => 1 )

Just to summarize here for the reader.

In fact the whole Newsfeeds function does not work on Roger's site.
Therefore it is not related to kl_rssfeed.

Roger, I could not see your system info.
Which Jooomla version and which PHP/MySql versions do you run?

I am not 100% sure but my nose smells something concerning the new PHP 5.1.4 release.

It just may be incompatible with Joomla rssfeeds functions as are.

Installing PHP 5.1.4 (on low band)
+ 2 core are also looking for this problem, Roger, as this may concern all users and not you alone.

Roger,

you have to talk to your hosts...

This is a typical php setting
Quote:
Safe Mode:  OFF
Open basedir: none
Display Errors: ON
Short Open Tags: ON
File Uploads: ON
Magic Quotes: ON
Register Globals: OFF
Output Buffering: OFF
Session save path: /tmp
Session auto start: 0
XML enabled: Yes
Zlib enabled: Yes
Disabled Functions: none
WYSIWYG Editor: No WYSIWYG Editor

This is yours
Quote:

Short Open Tags: ON
File Uploads: ON

Output Buffering: OFF

The
Quote:
Open basedir: /home:/tmp
is likely to be the culprit.

It is far too restrictive.

You may also have to ask your hosts to allow access to the specific rssfeeds you need.

Definitely not Joomla related.  ;)

You may delete my account now on your sites.

Good luck.

Jean Marie,

On the Thainaids site the same line reads:

Open basedir:  /var/www/virtual/thainaids.byethost10.com/:/usr/share/php/:/tmp/:/var/www/errors:/var/www/banner/

What should I aks them because it is here I need the Newsfeed more.

I guess you should copy/paste parts of this thread and mail them asking them to fix their settings.
It may be related to let the url for the feed show in that list (until last slash) or just simplify as all other hosting systems do.

They should know better.

(Strange hosting you get there..)

KL_RSSFEED (Tableless) is the same code as original kon-long kl_rssfeed + display in div instead of tables. It is NOT utf8 compatible as this kl_rssfeed for Joomla! 1.0.10
I have asked spig to join our 2 projects once we solve the php4 problem.

RSS 2 Joomla auto imports rss feeds as contents. It adds items to the database.

Feed Gator has the same function as RSS2 Joomla Auto, but much more complex an sophisticated. It also imports feeds as contents.

Hi infograf768,

so your kl_rssfeed for Joomla! 1.0.10 is more compatible with "Joomla future"...
Please, what does it mean exactly "imports feeds as contents" respect your plugin ?
what does it mean as functions, usability, features ... ?
Could you give me some practice examples ?
(I hope you understand me, sorry for my bad English)

Many Thanks for explainations  :)

You should read above...  ;)

1. install and publish the bot
2. Open a content item for edit (or create a new one).
3. Enter the link to a feed between the brackets (or multiple feeds)
ex: {kl_rssfeed}http://www.jornada.unam.mx/rss/politica.xml{/kl_rssfeed}
4. Publish your content

That content will update itself with the feed(s) provided.
It can be part of a category and displayed in a blog or through a table, in the FrontPage component, etc., as any other content.
Format can be decided as explained here:
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg416748

Why don't you just try?  ;)

Sorry to hear this.
I guess you know now that 250MB etc. has drawbacks...

RSS is now a very common feature on most sites. Next joomla version will provide for you infos on the up-to-date aspect of your Joomla through a connexion to our sites... (Just that, no infos will go from your site except the version used).

You may have to go hunting.

They CREATE contents in the database, each with its own picked up feed. These feeds's contents are stored until you delete them.
kl_rssfeed DISPLAYS live feeds in a content item you create. It is volatile, working as the Joomla Newsfeeds component.

... and ... I add another question:

Can your plugin work with multilanguage site ?
Have you think about ?

an example: I have Italian - Spanish - English on my Joomla portal with JoomFish and I add a Google RSS ...
A lot of big portals have more extensions and languages, so I have an Italian Google, Spanish Google, English Google (sometimes news are differents, sometimes no, for me is not important right now). Can I have differents RSS depending on languge selected on portal ?
