do you mean that when you type in mydomain.com/joomla/ you only get a list of files and folders?

If so that is the way your server is set up. It only recognizes index.htm or index.html not index.php. I had a server like that and have never really tried to find an answer. if you can get to your Joomla site by mydomain.com/joomla/index.php than you can try making a redirect from mydomain.com/joomla/ to mydomain.com/joomla/index.php in your server control panel.

There is another way to do this on the server but I have not been successful with that.
You can contact your server company to see if they can fix it for you.

I went to a different hosting company.

If you mean that you have your Joomla install at mydomain.com/joomla/ and when you type in mydomain.com you want to redirect to mydomain.com/joomla/ than you just need to create a redirect in your server control panel.
