I too insert the code and then when i click on the button in the article it just reopens the same page of my website.
I have turned the code editor off and it doesn't do anything...I tried making a new button and copying the code again into the article but the same thing happens...can anyone give me any advice?
do the link just above - turn off that thing in parameters. it works!

before i followed the instructions in the link the paypal button was visible. I followed the instructions in the link and nothing changed and now the button is not visible just the code.
I am very confused - i might try some new code and hopefully it will work.

Just wanted to take a minute to thank all of those who participated on this post. Those who had the problem and those who took the time to share their experiences with us all. I have been wrestling with this issue for two days and finally got it to work!

yeah, I tried that blacklist thing too, and it didn't do anything for me. What's going on here?

EDIT: Never mind. I didn't realize I had to BOTH use "no editor" AND do the black list thingy. It works fine. I'm a little concerned that this work around is a bit complicated for computer-not-so-savvy contributors, though.

I wanted to chime in since I know so many clients use PayPal (and it's also the way some of us get paid!)

If your looking to receive money (which is the obvious reason for putting a PayPal button in an article - i.e., "Donate To Us", etc) then you really should rethink the method here. So far everyone is talking about the various WYSIWYG editors stripping the e-mail addy's. This is a security feature and Joomla and REALLY shouldn't be cut off. (Do you REALLY want a lot of extra spam?!)

So what do you do?
Log in to your PayPal account and create a "hosted" button. This is actually the method that PayPal prefers (though some very advanced affiliate tracking features won't work with it - but that's for another post). If you put the Un-encrypted button on your site, it's fairly easy for some "gangster" to change it without you ever knowing. SOOOO - Joe Hacker down the street is now getting your lovely donations!

Since the encrypted button DOES NOT list your e-mail address, Joomla doesn't strip it.

To insert the button code? If using a WYSIWYG editor, simply use the "source", "HTML" or "XML" button (depending on your editor) and paste the code that PayPal provides to you.

I hope this helps someone (and helps some of you keep your money!)

:-)

Hi,

I had the same problem with Paypal buttons (shopping cart) and here is what I did to solve it:-

1) Make sure your running 1.5.9 (I have a Windows installation)
2) Install the JCE Editor Module (Make it default)
3) Create the article and copy the Paypal code in by clicking on <> code view
4) Make sure that the plugin "Email Cloaking" is disable
5) Save and test

This worked for me and it seems to be fine.

Hope this helps.

If you do not have the JCE already go here http://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/
After installing goto Plugins and enable JCE.
Finally either set JCE in the Joomla configuration as the default editor or (and) go to the user where you want to haev JCE as the default editor.

I couldn't check your site. The learning curve on this, to me, is prohibitive. Good luck to all that try this... I wish there was a way that I could just edit it off line and ftp it to the server, but I don't know where the pages are. This would take me 5 minutes. So far I have been working on this issue for more than two days now, and that's not eight hour days...

I didn't install the other editor yet, but for me, that's just a new problem that I have to figure out. I got to the point where Joomla only strips the <form etc.> information, and the button shows up...

I am very tired and frustrated. I think I'm going back to DW and code/design/ftp

Help...

There you can/have to define which tags are allowed.

Because in some editors (like JCE) there you have also the same list.

Hello -- I have the same problem that started this thread.
Specifically, I am using Joomla 1.5.15, using JCE Editor. I have a PayPal button that operates perfectly when the code is in a module. When I use the HTML
editor to copy and paste the same, exact code into the HTML editor in an
article, the PayPal button no longer works.

I don't quite understand all of the suggestions in the email thread, but it
seems that Joomla is converting some of my code before saving the code into the article.
Recognizing that I'm a novice, can someone tell me exactly what to do to fix
this problem.

Thanks!

Hi,

I've been using Paypal with Joomla (currently 1.5.15) on IIS without any problems. When I initially set it up, I also had the code being striped out but I took the advice on these forums and I haven't looked back since.

Here is what I did to solve it:-

1) Make sure your running 1.5.9 to 15 (I have a Windows installation)
2) Install the JCE Editor Module (Make it default - The original editor strips the code)
3) Create the article and copy the Paypal code in by clicking on "<>" code view
4) Make sure that the plugin "Email Cloaking" is disable
5) Save and test

This worked for me and it seems to be fine.

Hope this helps.

Hello - I am having the same problem as so many others are describing, when I click on a paypal button it just shows the same page. I tested the code - it works in an html doc outside of Joomla. I am using a hosted id for paypal as someone suggested in one of these posts. I copied in the html code into an article. I turned off my editor first and then inserted the html and saved. I disabled the email cloaking (even though I dont think I need to since I used this hosted button option that hide the address). I also went in and did the blacklist on everyone but superadminstrator. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do???

Re: PayPal button in Module - random work/not work

Post by dbirk » Sun Sep 12, 2010 7:18 pm

I have successfully installed a PayPal hosted button via a Joomla 1.5 HTML module on my front page as per above posted suggestions. The module when copied - didn't work on a secondary page (just recycled to page). I've used the PayPal generated code in both cases. My impression is the code stripping seems to be somewhat random. Sometimes it doesn't happen - and voila! the button works. Even with editor off and manual re-type of missing code - the saving of the module kills the hidden code again. The devil is still hiding in the details.

<option value="28'">28' $000.00</option>
<option value="29'">29' $000.00</option>
</select> </td></tr>
</table>
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">

lol i guess everyone just gave up on this, i'm having the same issue with a paypal hosted button and a subscription button, JCEeditor on/off, press html button and paste code and blam, button sites there and refreshes page, i think thats why IE put a refresh button in the toolbar so i dont need to lose a whole day to get another refresh button, has anyone gotten this to work at all??? its pretty rediculous...

ok i finally got this to work without JCEeditor and its much much simpler than it looks,
the problem is that <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> is getting stripped down to form action = post...
the fix is here but its spread out between all the posts on both pages of this thread, so hopefully i can sum it up.

in 1.6+ assuming you have your article already created and just need to paste the code, you ned to go to content/article manager/options/text filters
from there what i did was select No filtering for Administrator and Super User just to be safe and so i wouldnt have to go back if one didnt work

Second, two options, go to Site/Global Config/ and in the site settings box select Defaut Editor- NoNe. or go to User Manager, select yourself/Editor =None

Now go to your article and you should see a plain box where you can paste the code, click save and watch the box refresh, confirm by seeing the first line that says Form action=paypal.com..etc..
refresh your site and it will work

UPDATE: i went back and undid a few things which should make it easier, i reenable the TinyMCE editor for both the Site and myself , went back to the article and pasted updated code and it still worked so it seems all it needs is html filtering set to None followed by toggle eitor in the article.

I thought I'd chip in as we have spent hours trying to sort out similar problems on some older sites (Joomla 1.5.18). I managed to get the paypal hosted button to work by doing this ridiculous process:
  • Go to Article Manager | Parameters
Selected the Super Administrator in Filter Groups
Checked the Filter Type = Whitelist
Added the Filter Tags we use: form, br,hr,table,thead,tbody,th,td,img,a,p,div,ul,ol,li,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,em,b,strong,i,iframe,embed,param,input
Added the Filter Attributes we use:
    action,cellpadding,cellspacing,border,title,alt,href,target,style,height,width,src,frameborder,allowfullscreen,type,name,value

Hey guys,
I solved the issue I was having. For what ever reason joomla was truncating the form code in a really weird way. I had even made a custom HTML module and it still wasn't working
Here's how to get around it in 1.6:
Go into content >> article manager
then hit options
click text filters, then go down to super users and click filter type and select "No Filtering"

Then go and install your button.

NOTE: I used the encrypted form, not the one with the email, so email cloaking doesn't affect it. ALSO, I made a custom module, I can't promise this will work articles, ALSO ALSO, I disabled the HTML editor in Joomla as well to make this work.

Hope this helps

Hi folks,

I used the module method to get this working.

I attempted to put the PayPal button code straight into the article and tried the many fixes throughout this thread but to no avail. I had a lot of frustration as I was working on an older version of Joomla (1.5.1.4) and the customer did not want to do the upgrades at the moment, so some of the options that people were suggesting appeared to be not present in this version. On top of that I only have "Administrator" access and not "Super Administrator" access. This is fine, but I am beginning to think that many of the solutions provided in this thread require the "Super Administrator" access in order to change options like HTML filtering.

So to use the module method (Joomla 1.5.1.4) do the following:

Go to "Extensions" > "Module Manager">

Select "New" to create a new module

Select "Custom HTML"

Use the following options (screenshot attached):
  • Name it something like "PayPal Button"
    Show Title = No
    Enabled = Yes
Position = paypal (just type this in)
Under "Menu Assignment" choose "Select Menu Item(s) from the List" and click on the page your button will be on
Under "Custom Output", paste in your PayPal button code.
Save this page and exit.

Go to "Content" > "Article Manager" and click the page you want the paypal button on.

In HTML or code view, paste the following where you would like your button to show up:

Code: Select all

{loadposition paypal}
Savour victory!

I hope this helps anyone that is new to all of this. I've been working on and off with Joomla for years, but just on small project with a lot of time in between. Each time I come back to it I have to figure out a solution for some type of issue (or the same issues again ;) - this forum has been great.

wG

NOTE:
Using this method you do not have to disable email cloaking
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
