How to load destiation menus from link in article body?

Post by David Hume » Mon Jul 06, 2009 1:09 pm

Our client wants to use links embedded in articles, both individually and in a Superfish dropdown menu inserted into an article body in a Joomla 1.5.11 site.

Using the php coding from a menu item linked to the destination article loads the article, but only loads the appropriate destination menus if the source page already has a working link to the destination article in a displayed menu. As menus are assigned to source menu links in Module Manager, this is not surprising.

Apart from setting up css to hide the display of a dummy source menu, it there any other way of calling an article page complete with menus relevant to its content from an embedded link?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sure, make a new menu with a module that is published only to that article.

The article itself must be published to a menu to obtain an "Itemid", but THAT menus module need not be published on the page.

hmmm, reading over that, its accurate, but confusing to even me...

Trying again:

Joomla is menu-driven

You can make a new menu, and put a link to this article on it, but DON'T publish the new menu's module.
It'll still be available for you to use in links, to control module displays, etc.

So to have another menu with items relevant to a given article, make the relevant menu, and publish its module ONLY to the article in question.

I hope that all makes sense, sorry if it doesn't, maybe someone else can say it better.
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.

Thanks very much - problem solved.

Your answer much clearer than my question!
