I'm new to Joomla and right now feeling a little stupid. Where do I find css information on module definitions such as Top, Left, Right, Footer, etc? I keep looking in the template css files but I cannot find them.

You can't apply css to module positions, onnly to the HTML that is rendered to the browser...

If you get Firefox with the Firebug extension, it'll tell you the line number and filename(s) of the css file that is controlling those renderings so that you can easily fix it.

Let me try to ask the question a different way..
In the template I am currently working in, the TemplateDetails.xml file lists all of the positions used in the template (inset, top, left, right, user1, user2, user3) but the file does not describe the positions at all (location, height, width, float, etc) where will I find that description or am looking at this all wrong?

Your template's index.php, in combination with the css files, determine the location and appearance of the module positions.

The .xml file lists them for inclusion in the database.

The fuirebug addon mentioned above will let you inspect the page to find the names and current CSS attributes of the module positions now.

To preview the positions,

Thank you. I am able to see the positions in Joomla admin center as well. I am using Firefox and Firebug but I still do not see any reference at all to inset, top, user1,2,3 or footer. Am I looking for the wrong thing?
