Re: Please enter a package directory
Sounds like you are clicking the wrong install button.
There are three methods of installing add-ons in Joomla.
The most usual is the upload and install of a zip file from your PC.
Click the browse button to locate a zip file on your machine.
Then click the 'upload and install' button to the right of that 'browse' button.
The second installation method involves you manually unpacking the zip file, uploading it to a folder on the server and then telling Joomla where to look for the previously uploaded installation files. Your error message sounds like you have clicked this second install button - but without specifying where you uploaded your installation files (if you had indeed uploaded any files).
Hope that helps. If you need to clarify anything or correct any incorrect assumptions on my part please feel free to do so.

Re: Please enter a package directory
Thanks Dean.
The reason I dint use the upload and install function is because it usually doesn't work.
Therefore I usually upload it to the tmp file. In this case as an address I used http://www.boodschapjes.com/tmp but then I get the error. What can I do?

Re: Please enter a package directory
hello,
it's not just uploading a .zip file fo /tmp dir but actually unzipping the .zip file in your computer, uploaded the contents from the zip to /tmp dir and then do the install, as far as i can remember.
hope that helps!

Re: Please enter a package directory (Solved)
Hi thanks derebo. The issue has now been solved. I had to change the directory permissions to solve the problem.

if i unzip the .zip file,there is big list of files and folders in it,shall i upload all these to /tmp manually? (suing FTP filezilla)
there are already some files and folders in my /tmp dir,shall i delete all these?
I am trying to use Install from Directory,bcos Upload & Install Joomla Extension fails due to large size of the zip file.(my host does not allow such big zip file uploads)

Go to the author's website or forum and look for manual install instructions. Not all extensions have the same install procedure.

Install instructions are here;
http://sman.osg-gmbh.de/en/documentatio ... lation-eng
The downloaded file has to unzipped first as it contains two zip files that must be install singly.
Installing via FTP to the tmp folder;
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 3#p1682695
If it is Joomla 1.5 the installer will be looking for a .xml file.

Re: Please enter a package directory
if you are installing manually from directory
enter the site configuration path + the name of the site folder/tmp
e.g
C:\inetpub\vhosts\XXX/Sitename/tmp
