RSS - User friendly xml URL and RSS with Joom!Fish?

Post by Jabe64 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 4:42 am

Hi!

I would like to know if there is some way to have different RSS feeds for each language and have some user friendly feed URL?

I mean having feed url like:
mysite.com/rss.xml
or
mysite.com/rss/rss.xml

Or depending on language:
mysite.com/en/rss.xml for English feed
mysite.com/fr/rss.xml for French feed
etc.

Or even depending on category url, example:
mysite.com/rss.xml would be feed for my entire site
mysite.com/tutorials/rss.xml would be feed for my tutorial section only.
mysite.com/interviews/rss.xml would be feed for my interviews section only.
mysite.com/events/rss.xml would be feed for my events section only.
etc.

Here is what I've done so far:

1) First I tried to use Joomla default RSS system so I went to:
Extensions/Modules/New/Syndicate
Title: rssfeed
Cache: never (and I can't change this option anyway, only "never" is available)
Text: RSS Feed
Format: RSS 2.0
But when doing this I have no feed appearing on webpage, only title of module appears !

2) Then I disabled:
-Subscribe "RSS 2.0"
and
-Subscribe "Atom 1.0"
in the address bar by going under
-MainMenu/Menuitem/Advanced/Display feed "No"/"Hide"
And I've done this to all menu items.

3) I decided to use some extension so I used Ninja RSS Syndicator.

I achieved to have icon in address bar back but without user-friendly url.
I did some tricks to get rid of default module but keeping this link in address bar, wrote my own HTML module to display RSS link the way I wanted, then…

I realized I only had 1 feed, no translated one (as explained on Ninja RSS Syndicator forum).
Or had titles translated but not content.

I don't know where the problem is coming from but could help me to get:
-user friendly url as said above
-different feed for each language (using joom!fish)
-only RSS 2.0 feed (no choice for Atom)
-being able to add RSS description and title

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Jabe

Note: I'm using Joomla 1.5.15 on local Server (wamp) with php 5.2.11 (because 5.3.0 doesn't work with Joom!Fish) and I have explicit SEF URL turned on in general configuration of Joomla.
