Allowing Authors to Edit There Article

Post by boxinghistorian » Sun Jan 02, 2011 2:50 pm

When im logged in as an author I see a small page symbol that indicated I can edit my article. When I click on this I get the message

The article Integrated Sports Media scores PPV KO in 2010 is currently being edited by another Editor, Publisher, or Administrator.

Im the only one logged in to the account, Any Ideas

Propbably because you are logged in at the Backend and just created or edited the Article. And it is locked until you log out of the Backend or Tools >>>> Global checkin is clicked.

LOL, right i have clicked several times but it just takes me to the Global Check-in page, the green check remains next to the Global Checking from the tools menu no matter what i do. Are you sure this can be unchecked.

The green tick on the menu item stays the same no mater what the state.

By clicking the menu item you 'check in' any locked out parts of the admin/edit screens. Thus allowing access to the edit screen by others.

This makes no sense to me, the articles have no menu item. Can you explain what you mean layman's terms

You don't actually uncheck that green check. When you click Global Checkin, it goes to the global check-in page. The green checks in that page show what was checked out/locked/whatever you want to call it.

Pages are locked when you are editing them, unless you actually click "Cancel" or "Save". If you click "Apply", it saves your changes, but still thinks you are editing the article.

Not sure why you are an Author level if it is your site. Try logging in as a higher level user and see if that is the issue...

Because a higher level editor/admin should Never interfere with with work someone else is working on. Joomla recognises this principle and therefore does not let anyone to edit an Article that is being edited,(no matter how high up in the chain of command they are).

An analogy
In real life a boss will only take a job off a person, they would not interfere with the job someone else is doing. On the occasions that they do interfere is when the job gets messed up.

SO what if an author uploads content and its a complete mess, they have no CSS experience and dont even know what a <p> tag is. Surly the master user should be allowed to go in and fix. Ive been having major Issues with people pasting there articles from a text editor like MS Word into the text editor provided, all the malicious code comes over and the article ends up a mess. So its importand i go in and fix this kind of thing before publishing.

To be honest I switched over to CMS to allow users to do more, but it seems im doing just as much as i used to when the site was created in Dreamweaver and i received articles to my Email them i uploaded.

Yes after the the person doing the editing claims it is finished, not while the work is still in progress.

It is up to the owner of the site to make sure the person he/she allows editing rites to can do it properly.
