upgrading from 1.8 to 3.3

running joomla 1.8 and want to update to joomla 3.3. I changed folder permission to 777 but from joomla dashboard still shows modules and components unwrittable. can you please help how to upgrade.

could you please try to change the files/folders permission to 0755? or ask to hosting to change the permission?

if you try to change the folders then it will take your more time to do and ask the hosting to make it quickly?

Joomla version 1.8 has never existed. It's 1.6, 1.7 and 2.5
