Hello,
I host with 1and1 and have uploaded Joomla on the webserver. Everything works fine and have been happily experimenting with creating pages.
Now the problem begins...I want to view my pages that I created in my subfolder /home but I can't get rid of the existing index.html that 1and1 has. I've been attentively reading all the posts I could find and attempting the solutions provided, i.e. changing .htaccess, changing permissions, but still nothing happens!
I am getting extremely frustrated as it seems everything I try is not working!!
Can anyone using 1and1 help me resolve this? This seems to be a common problem in the forum posts but so far nothing is working for me.
Thanks in advance.

J! must be installed in the root directory in order for it to appear when you open your domain.

Installing J! in a sub-directory requires, 1) a link from the index page in the root, or 2) a redirect command that when the url is selected, it re-directs the browser to the sub-domain.

If there isn't anything, or any requirement to keep the "1and1" opening page, then dump the index.html page in the root by renaming it xindex.html and move your site from the sub-dir to the root (change the two page lnes in the configuration.php file to remove the sub-dir name) and that should do it.

Most ISP's, when a site is created, provide a default opening page to allow it to appear when the domain name is propagated via all the name servers. Usually, you simply replace that content with your own. If "1and1" won't allow that, not sure what to suggest because they may not allow redirects either.

1and1 hosting packages (UK at least) include a domain management panel allowing domains to be assigned to specific sub-directories to any number of levels. (I have taken this down to 3 levels so far without problem!)
Are you US or UK based? Check your admin link on your account for the domain panel.

WOW!!! Thank you so much for your help!!! I never thought the solution would be so simple! As I mentioned before, I've been racking my brain for the past week!
I am very grateful for the guidance.
Thank you!
