New install with 404 error

I just contracted a new managed server.

When I migrate joomla 1.5.23 to three subdirectories, they all worked fine.

But when I unzip the 1.5.23 full stable package into a new subdirectory, I get a 404 error, saying document can not be found.

can you provide a url/link to the directory please..

sounds to me not all the joomla files are present so maybe download the package again and retry..

Wow, someone responded. Great. I did that already.

http://meditatefirst.org has three subfolders..
/test1.5/ contains joomla 1.5.23 ported from another site. It works.
/test1.6/ contains joomla 1.6.3 stable full.. it does not work.

The directory on the left is the 1.5.23 unzipped.
The directory on the right is the 1.6.3 unzipped in the /test1.6/ folder.

By default Joomla 1.6 are SEF ON
Try to set SEF OFF in global Configuration
Or If necessary to SEF ON
Try to set all SEF ON/Yes rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess also make sure mod_rewrite on too.

00mNezar, After I copy over .htaccess(rewrite on), both 1.5.23 and 1.6.3 install showed up. No more 404 error.

Important to note also for future inquirer... I needed to add the following line in .htaccess..

#To enable PHP5
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

Because the managed server does not care which version of php I use. Otherwise, it does not work.
