It is the first time I try with Joomla and I have followed the instructions - copied all the extracted files onto the server with FileZilla and then i wrote the domainname in the address bar I got a page with the following message:

403 Forbidden
You are not allowed to access this page. Possible problems:
Missing index file
Misconfigured mod_rewrite settings in .htaccess
Authentication Failure
Incorrect file or folder permissions

How can this be done when nothing is done other than follow instructions?

What do I have to do now?
Regards
dkgryf

I'm having a similar problem. My message reads as follows:

"Access forbidden!

You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 403

localhost

Apache/2.2.12 (Unix) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.12 OpenSSL/0.9.8k PHP/5.3.0 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.0 "

I'm using XAMP and that's running fine. I just can't access Joomla through local hosting to finish setting things up.

I'm getting the same message error when I try to link to another article from my front page. I've never had this problem before and am typing the correct address. One problem I've found is the URL that I type for the link changes once I hit update, apply, and save. Don't know if it's related to your problem, but it's the same message error when I try to click on the link.

Add the following to your .htaccess file.
Do make sure it is set as .htaccess (note the dot) and not as a text file.
Otherwise change the name of the htaccess.txt to .htaccess at the server.
