I have no problem on my current site in 1.5.14. Installing a new site using 1.5.15. Have made several clean install attempts, but cannot set up the FTP layer to work. I receive the following message: "The FTP settings are not valid or your FTP server is not compatible with Joomla!:
Could not access the specified FTP directory."
The server has successfully used FTP in an earlier version. I can use the FTP username and password to log in via my FTP client. If I skip past this part I can't load any plugins.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

If I try to set up the FTP after completing the installation I get this message:
JFTP::login: Unable to login
JClientHelper::setCredentialsFromRequest failed

Confirm your user name and password with your Host. If you have installed in a sub-directory be sure to add the sub-directory to the FTP root. Check the port number is correct. Insure that the Host name is correct and that you have selected Enabled for FTP in the Global Configuration settings under the Server tab.

What are you using for the FTP host name? You may want to try the IP address.

I can FTP into the root of the domain using my FTP client. Using the same information, I can't get past the FTP set up in the install. If I skip that section, I still can't upload and install.

I never had this problem before the 1.5.15 install. Could this be related to changes in that version?

I too have the same problem. This is due to the Host server allows FTP using "TLS/SSL (AUTH TLS - Explicit)" type of connection only.

But joomla ,by default uses Text Mode FTP

The problem is this and we need to configure Joomla to use "TLS/SSL (AUTH TLS - Explicit)" FTP Connecdtion.

Any one knows how to configure Joomla FTP setting to use "TLS/SSL (AUTH TLS - Explicit)" connections ????

anyone found a solution for this?

I just installed Joomla! 1.5.15 and I can't successfully enter FTP settings in the setup process. Joomla is installed in the root and my user name(s) and password are correct. I can use CuteFTP to login just fine, but doesn't work with Joomla!

I tried 127.0.0.1, localhost, and ftp.mydomain.com all don't work, even changing them after installation doesn't help.

Same problem here too. After 1.5.15 can´t get access to my FTP and can´t install any new Extensions any more.

My error:
* JFTP::store: Unable to use passive mode
* Warning! Failed to move file.

Keep in mind that the FTP layer is only to be used if you are experiencing permissions errors on your server. If not, you do not need this and should not use the FTP layer.

I know this is not a solution but it may help some people having issues. Often people think they have to use this and it is not the case.

I have found that the configuration.php file has a write permissions issue. Make it possible for the group to have access and then it should work.
