Re: Uploading Joomla
hey guys,
I just migrated my website over from another web server using joomla pack(backup) and kickstart.php. Everything seemed to go ok, but now when i go into the website, it comes up with an index file for public_html and not the main website (http://www.tradesadvisor.com) ... any idea what I have done wrong? Cheers, Gavin

Website coming up with index of public_html
Hello there,
I've just transferred my website over to a new remote hosting. I took a backup with the old site using joomlapack and install on the new server, by uploading the backup (zip) and kickstart.php. The remote install on the server worked OK by the looks of it, but now when I go to the domain website, the website doesn't open up but instead the index for public_html.
Does anyone have any idea what I have done wrong or what I need to do to fix it?
I'm a newbie so if anyone does know what I've done wrong, I'd appreciate a simple guide?
Many thanks,
Gavin

Re: Website coming up with index of public_html
Hi iikozen,
Bit of an update. Been playing with it since I posted before. I noticed the website was showing the index for a public_html file that was one of the folders (subdomain?) of the main public_html, which was wrong anyway. So I've deleted the subdomain public_html. Now the website just shows HTTP404 : Cannot be found.
The website link is www.tradesadvisor.com.
Thanks for any help you can give!
Gavin

Download Kickstart, unpack locally.
Upload... to yout www(public_html) folder the .jpa file, kickstart.php and the appropriate language file.
Point your Browser at the kickstart.php file (www.yoursite.com/kickstart.php) and follow the instructions.

I'm pretty new at this also but it sounds to me like your files unpacked to the wrong location. If you were getting an html file and the nothing when you removed it I would first thing ftp into your site and see where joomla files actually are.

Re: 404 Problems after moving site.
hey webdongle, thanks for your post.
That's how I installed the new installation and the problem started after the installation was completed.
I'm wondering if I need to modify the config file as it still has the server information from the previous installation on the old server?

Where in my instructions does it say to upload your old configuration.php file ? The answer is Nowhere !!!!!gesslemont wrote:hey webdongle, thanks for your post.

Those 3 files are the only 3 files that are needed. Kickstart writes the configuration.php file with the correct values for your sever. The very same details that you enter into Kickstart.the .jpa file, kickstart.php and the appropriate language file.
404 means that the file you are looking for is not on the server at the place you are looking.
Are you familiar with the structure of servers ?
Please provide a screenshot of the files on your server.

error in installing joomlapack
Hello,
I've just restored a site and was having problems backing up using joomlapack that was already installed. So I deleted that and tried reinstalling it. It wont install and instead I get this message :-
JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Warning! Failed to move file.
I've just noticed that it seems to do it when I try to install any update/component/module/plugin? Do you think it might have something to do with writing permissions since restoring the site on a different server?
Anyone any idea why it would be doing this?
Cheers,
Gavin

Re: error in installing joomlapack
As far as I remember you need to have write permissions for joomlapack to install.
I think I once renamed public_html to public_html_old and created a new folder public_html with 777 permissions and then install went fine.
remember to change permissions after install

Since restoring site to new server, wont let me write to tmp
Hello,
I wondered if anyone can help me. I copied my joomla website over and reinstalled it under a different domain (I am using it as a template to develop another website). So all the settings (apart from the database info) has remained the same, but for some reason, I am no longer able to write to the tmp folder. I can't make backups in joomlapack and I can't seem to install any new modules.
The message that comes up when I try to install joomlapack is :-
JFTP::mkdir: Bad response
JFTP::chmod: Bad response
JFTP::store: Bad response
Warning! Failed to move file.
And on another site that I have done the same thing but had joomlapack installed already (and when I try to make a backup), the error I get is :-
JoomlaPack will not work due to critical configuration errors
You must rectify the following errors in order to be able to sucessfuly use JoomlaPack:
•Temporary directory unwritable
The write permissions I have for the tmp folder is 755 and for the index.html file in the tmp folder the permissions are 644.
What should the permissions be for the main public_html folder? I have attached a snippet of what that looks like ...
If anyone can help me with this, I'd be extremely grateful. I am a newbie ...
Many thanks,
Gavin

Have you checked out the detailed instructions, documentation and forums for JoomlaPack?
