I have recently been given a Joomla site to host on a server. The website has been hosted in the past but the hosting wasn't renewed for around 2 years.

After a few hours of trying to figure it out, I've given up.

The website is http://www.coleconsultingglobal.com

Any help with what is currently going wrong would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!

There are a range of possibilities.

Have you followed this document?

From its age your site could be J!1.0.x or J!1.5.x Have you upgraded the Joomla! to 2.5.x?

Could you give a bit more detail?
Do you have it running on your local machine?
Did it run on a local machine before it was passed to you?
Did you get a back up of a site that was functioning/

Sorry to raise more problems

Good luck

Hello, I have followed that document but unfortunately it made no difference.

I've had to guess at the version the site was running previously as I was only provided with the files which need to be put on the server and the mySQL database.

As far as I am aware the site was made circa 2008 and I was asked to re-host it as the original designer is unreachable at the moment.

I haven't tested it on a local machine therefore I am not sure whether it would function, but as far as I am aware the site functioned correctly on the previous server

Set up a local host server using WampServer or XAMPP on Windows.
Install an example of Joomla 1.5 and then overwrite the joomla_root/ files of the site with the files you have from your backup.
Then drop the tables of the new site and import the backup database files you have into the database, to replace those that are already there.

If it is Joomla 1.5. then it should work without too much issue.

Do you have access to the original site online?
Otherwise without a lot more information you are pretty much stuffed! ;)
