Hello.

I restored a copy of my live site on my localhost mac os xampp server apparently with success but although the index page loads and I can access the administration page, the menu links fail with 404 errors.

I have the latest joomla 1.5 , local ssl certificates and both http & https works.

Is there a path variable that needs setting I wonder?

Have you modified the paths in the configuration.php file to reflect the move?
tmp/ and log/ primarily. Changing the database details, and any reference to the original URL.
The same would go for any direct references in an .htaccess file if used.
