I am trying to install Joomla 1.5 on my own computer, localhost. (I'd like to use a newer version of the program but the people I'm working with use 1.5 and have a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality, and 1.5 isn't giving them any problems.)

I'm using the guide found here: http://help.joomla.org/files/VisualGuide15.pdf

I installed XAMPP with no problems and checked it and it's working fine. And Joomla install went smoothly until I got to the point of adding sample data. That did not work. And then when I was finishing it up, I thought I'd go to some sort of start-up screen but instead got a page full of msgs. See the attached file for an idea of what they were.

In the sixth step of the installation instructions, it said to delete the INSTALLATION file from Joomla's folder. I may have deleted the wrong installation file as I deleted the one in the HTDOC directory. Did I delete the wrong one? (I restored it, but if this is the wrong one, I might have really messed it up.)

Oh, I forgot to mention I am anything but a geek and while I am comfortable working with software, not so good with installing it and trouble shooting problems.

Can anybody help me get Joomla up and running on my computer? Is sample data for 1.5 still available?

What do I do now?

thanks for any help.

It is not the INSTALLATION file - it is the directory named installation.

As for as the messages about the Strict Standards, review of the discussion http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=2556146#p2556146 would be of help.

Thanks.

I may have misnamed that 'file' that is actually a folder...

xampp > htdocs > installation (this folder is what I deleted)

What about sample data for my localhost installation? Is any available?

Would I have an easier time of installation using a newer version of Joomla? If so, how do I uninstall 1.5? I do not see it listed as an installed program. I'm using Win7.

Thanks.

Uninstalling Joomla! is just deleting the files in the directory where Joomla! is installed and the sub-directories below it.

What you could do is try to install Joomla! 2.5.6 in a separate directory under the directory htdocs. Once installed, log into the site's back-end, go to the Global Configuration and set the Error Level to Maximum. This is should take care of the Strict Standards error.
