This has taken me days!!! hopefully I'll get the help i need here.
i have tried endlessly to install a newly purchased city portal template from shape5 but every attempt i make ends up with the message ERROR! COULD NOT FIND A JOOMLA! XML SETUP IN THE PACKAGE.
What is it that i need to be doing because i am at my wits end and the laptop has nearly left the building on several occasions and i live on the 7th floor and it was leaving via the window!
Does the fact that I'm using Linux RedHat have anything to do with my problem and does that tell you how green i am? maybe i should leave this computer and website malarkey to the younger generation, I'm only 26 and lost, please help!!!!!!

Welcome to Joomla forum!

Are you trying to install a 1.5 template on your 1.5 Joomla website?

Can you unzip your .zip file and check the contents?
Sometimes an extension's .zip file needs to be unzipped to get separate .zip files that need to be installed separately.

You are using RedHat Linux? Great! IMHO Linux is an awesome operating system.
It's open source. The software and its license don't limit your freedom like closed source software does....
I am using Linux too (Arch Linux) and don't have any problems with running Joomla locally & installing extensions.

Thank you for your swift reply.
I am pretty sure that its a compatible 1.5 template and that I have joomla 1.5 installed.
I have been able to unzip the City Portal file using RAR and this gave me the following files;

mod_s5_search_15
mod_s5_tabshow2_cp15
mod_s5_weather_15
Shape5_CityPortal_15
Shape5_CityPortal_JPEGs
Shape5_CityPortal_PSDs
Shape5_CityPortal15.sql
SiteShaper_CityPortal_15

how do i know which of the files or even which parts of these files do i need to install? I have tried the last 3 on the list and they all gave me the same error as described in my first post.
I started using Linux only recently (it's a very long story!) and have no complaints regarding the operation system it just takes a while to forget the microsoft ways but you get there eventually.
I am as you probably guessed new to this website building stuff and have already experienced a strange occurrence whereby my own site although in its construction phase has been copied so to speak regarding content and theme. I say strange because I only registered my website online last week and today I find another site (registered today) also "under construction" yet with no content showing just a message saying "coming soon" with a description of my content and themes. Maybe its naive of me to think that it wouldn't happen but it was somewhat frustrating after I've been spending all my time trying to organise layout, topics, etc only to be usurped in this way. Anyway enough of my moaning, I've removed everything now leaving just the template and will only publish a finished item, hopefully as soon as i can remedy my current problem.
Once again thank you for your swift response and I hope you can help me further regarding this issue.
Dank u Wel
Thats the extent of my Dutch I'm afraid! :)
