Last December I managed to install my database onto a GoDaddy hosting platform. I had moved the site lock, stock and barrel from CloudAccess, which was very good, but hosting was too expensive for me. I developed the entire web-site on CloudAccess, but when the trial period finished I shifted the site to GoDaddy.

The web-site is at http://www.socialenterpriseafrica.org

Since then, it has worked visually for site visitors (though not perfectly), but I have been unable to update it at all. I can log into the site and all the options are there. However, it does not permit any updates at all. In almost every case, the update goes to a white screen.

Today I tried to update the site to 2.5 through the processes on the other forum and when I clicked on Purge Updates it came up with an error message saying:
"Failed to purge updates, failed to enable updates." There are no updates listed.

If I click on Database, it says "Warning, Database is not up to date" - the list of warnings are below:

So, the web-site has remained the same since last December.

I now would really like to make some changes, so I was wondering whether anyone here could shed some light on the problem. I thought Joomla would be an easy option, but I am finding it very difficult, as I am a novice at Web development.

Where should I start, to try to resolve the problem? - GoDaddy have refused to assist, as they state that they do not support third party applications.

I am very sorry to hear about your frustration. Go Daddy does not prevent Joomla users from updating their accounts, but it sounds like there may have been some changes made that need to be corrected.

In your case, you may have missing tables, or tables that are not labeled as Joomla expects them to be. You will need to create/import any missing tables and add the missing columns to those tables.

For example, based on the errors, it seems like your DB may be missing the jos_ tables prefix you can maybe compare the old DB to the new DB to see where this prefix is missing along with fields that may be missing.

If you can possibly go back to the original version and state of your account before you made changes in attempt to upgrade, we may be able to assist you in upgrading manually. Can you let us know what the original version of your Joomla install was?

I am pretty certain that it was 1.7 - it was whatever the latest version was in late 2011.

I did not find the install provess very easy. The first time it did not work at all and then the second time it worked in the way described above, so I am guessing it was an installation problem, but I simply don't know what to do differently. If I can amend what I already did, then that could be helpful.

Anyway, I am open to any suggestions.

Have you gone into phpMyAdmin to view your database? Do all your tables have the jos_ prefix? The prefix is specified in configuration.php. Suggest you check this out just in case it might be causing your issue.
