backup of site blank on local machine

Post by Meturk » Mon Feb 03, 2014 4:53 pm

I'm trying to get our old 1.5 site onto my local machine so I can update it (all I really need is the virtuemart data) to 2.5.

What version of XAMPP or WAMP should I be using? I've installed XAMPP 1.7.3 as recommended under original installation instructions, then made an akeebackup of my live site, install it locally without any problems but once everything finished and I go to the front/back of the site, it's blank. I check the page source and there's literally nothing there.

I'm not sure what's going on, I tried going directly to the sitemap and that's blank (although there is code when I view the source).

At this stage all I really want to do is get the data from my virtuemart 1.9 installation into the latest version but there seems to be a never ending string of compatibility problems and as soon as I find a way around one problem another pops up.

Joomla versions older then 1.5.15 will have problems if your server is running php 5.3, if you were using Wamp server you could add a php plugin for an older version and then switch php versions.

Check the configuration.php file that it has the correct credentials for your local database. While in the config file disable SEF by setting it to 0 if it is set to 1. Check the root of your local install and make sure you do not have a php.ini file from your Host's server and also try renaming any .htaccess file to htaccess.txt. Back to the config file make sure your var live_site is empty or set to your local url.

Check your local php error log, should be in a logs folder, and see if the php error that blocks the site is recorded.

Thanks dpacadmin, No luck I'm afraid.

I got the 5.2.9-2 PHP plugin for WAMP and tried installing the site again using akeebackup but the same result. It goes through the installation as expected but when I click go to back end it just goes to the root of the folder and a completely blank page, same thing happens when I go to front end or even try to go to "/index.php".

In PHP the only two logged errors are,
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: maxchunk in ..backupoldsite\installation\includes\output\dbsetup.php on line 169

PHP Notice: Undefined variable: maxqueries in ..\backupoldsite\installation\includes\output\dbsetup.php on line 173

No errors in the apache log.
Those PHP errors don't seem to be serious from what I can find about them and the restoration doesn't stop.

I wasn't able to find my php.ini file in the root folder. I checked Help>system info>PHP information for the location of my php.ini file but that page is blank on the live site.

Changed to htaccess.txt
Turned off SEF
Live_stie is empty

I have other joomla 1.5 site running locally that I made for quality control at work, so the server is running without any errors for that site.

The person who made the live site installed the datasafe pro component but when I tried to use that to make a backup it wouldn't do anything and it's backup folder was empty, so I installed akeebackup (which I usually use and am familiar with) and used that for my backup.

Could there be a conflict there?

Could just be a bad backup file. Try creating a new fresh backup file to install with. Sometimes the backup files are no good, that is why it is good to test the backup with a local install. If you can not get into the admin backend check the administrator folder for a htaccess or password file, they are not needed for a local install.

I think I may have discovered at least part of the problem. The joomla 1.5 site was made by someone else who hid the administrator, so it would look something like "http://www.mysite.com/administrator/?secure%25%25". When I ad the "secure%25%25" bit to the end of my link I can get into the back end of the site.

Would this be a module or would he have edited files to do that?

Thanks for the help, I can at least get at my content now.

Yes this sounds like a security extension. If you run the complete scan of your site with the Forum Post Assistant it will display all the extensions on your site, post the results here if you can not find the extension.

You have Admin Tools installed, I think it has a security feature, check and disable it if it does.
You seem to be missing some php modules on your server, try to enable at least these two;

Code: Select all

curl mcrypt
.

That looks like the culprit, it even warns in the .htaccess maker page that problems could lead to loading a blank page. I was hoping to be able to disable the component on my local installation but it barely works, it won't let me go to the second page of modules and plug-ins for example and won't disable modules.

I'm very apprehensive about doing it on the live site, I'm assuming it will change the links and I might not be able to access the back end of the site. I started disabling settings (and deleted the HTacess file as recommended in the admin tools back end) in Admin tools but I don't think it's applying the changes.

I guess the best thing to do now is open a support ticket with Akeebackup and see if they can advise on a course of action.

Is it possible to disable components outside of the admin part of joomla?

If you have database access you can set the component's enabled to zero for disabled.
