Selling Ebook Extension (Need an off the shelf solution/package) suggestions?

I've chosen Joomla because it basically has 80% of what i need with the dynamic content, flexibility. Part of my project is to sell Ebooks online,however searching through the "extensions on the joomla site" none of them seem to fit the bill for what i need it for, most of them are ecommerce shopping carts or basic payment systems. Or perhaps im not looking in the right place? I have a very thin idea of what might work, but have many doubts because im new to joomla system.

I'm not selling any tangible products as such, only selling a few ebooks, would like something that the user can download(ebook) and pay for it through a payment gateway such as paypal. Am unsure as to what to use as i am a 'newbie' and want something off the shelf customise it a bit and run it.

guys and gals any suggestions for a newbie to Joomla that can accomodate for this?

VirtueMart integrates with many payment processor gateways and will allow you to sell non-tangible goods via download.

Hi, I was in your shoes a while back.
I knew that I wanted to use Joomla and I knew I wanted to sell digital products like eBooks. I too, would recommend checking out Virtuemart. The toughest part is getting it all set up. Once it is setup, it works great! Virtuemart integrates with Authorize.net and Paypal.

I tried Virtuemart but no luck.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem?
Surely it can be done?
There must be a download somewhere that allows me to load my book in a zip file, have someone buy it using paypal and then be able to download it, surely?
It sounds simple enough...But I have the feeling it is not going to be so easy.

What problems did you have with VirtueMart? I've set it up alot of times just for this type of download and never had any problems.

VirtueMart is a full blown shopping cart solution. So that may not be what you want. You may want to check out these others.

I just couldn't get the thing working...virtuemart, that is.
I just found P2DXT which says it can do all that I want an incorporate paypal.
Will this do it for me?

I don't have any experience with P2DXT so I can't really say if it will or not. I do have experience with VirtueMart though. I'll send you a PM.

I recently added an ebook to my site and I placed a PayPal Buy Now button (I wanted a quick and easy setup)on the article page, per PayPal when setting up the button just add the PDF link to to the button in step 3.

I'm still not clear on one point regarding setting it up in Joomla 1.5.

QUESTION: If the article is published, isn't the page available and it's available to download for free and if it's unpublished how do customers download it after paying for it. (do I publish/unpublished) the ebook.
