I seem to have lost the ability to see any content editor except TinyMCE on the front end. On the back end, JCE and JoomlaFCK both work fine (when editing articles from the Article Manager). However, on the front end, only TinyMCE and no editor will appear. I've set the global default, set my user ID default, tried different templates, enabled and disabled various plugins, tried different user IDs, and nothing helps.

This began after I upgraded JCE from an older version to 1.54. I was using JCE as my default editor, and did not have JoomlaFCK installed. I was surprised when I installed JoomlaFCK and it also did not work. When multiple editors are enabled, the "toggle editor" link works, but skips over JCE and JoomlaFCK. Only the no editor option and TinyMCE are toggled.

I am running Joomla 1.5.14

Any ideas?? :(

Dave

What template are you using? If you are not using the default Joomla template try changing it to that and see if the problem persists.

Could it be a plugin that has added an editor button that only works with TinyMCE? Are the other editors enabled? What editor do you have set in the Global settings? Can you set the JCE editor in the User settings?
Could be a bad upgrade, you could try uploading the complete file set for Joomla 1.5.14, except the installation folder. Check your FTP log to be sure all files were uploaded and that they overwrote the old files. If you have cPanel you could extract the tar version of the full stable file set over your site then delete the installation folder it creates and the tar file.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the responses. I'm sorry if I started this topic in the wrong spot. I did not realize I was already in a subject when I hit the New Topic button.

Anyway, I have been testing this with various templates. I'm not sure which one is the Joomla default. However, when I switched to jp_default_1.5, I got the following result:

Image

This is the first time I got any kind of an error message, and as you can see, there are no editor controls or buttons whatsoever. But as you can see, this seems to be a problem with this templates css (which I have experimented with in the past), and should not impact other templates.

To answer other questions, I do have a plugin installed that adds "image," "pagebreak," and "read more" links below the text box, but those are all currently disabled. I have uninstalled JCE, but I have JoomlaFCK, TinyMCE 2.0, and No Editor enabled (by the way, how do you upgrade TinyMCE to a newer version?). I have tried various templates, but the one I use for my site is from siteground and is called sitegroung-j15-11. JoomlaJCK is the default editor in Global settings, and in my user settings.

Dave

Ok, I changed my template to rhuk_milkyway, and disabled ALL of my content plugins. JoomlaFCK is the default editor in Global and User settings. Here is what I get when I try to create a new article from the user frontend menu:

And here is what I get when I go to the backend as Administrator to the Control Panel and choose "Add New Article."

Could this be a permissions problem?

I just checked file permissions, and JoomlaFCK is identical to TinyMCE - all directories are drwxr-xr-x, and all files are rw-r-r-.

So I guess that is not the problem. :'(

I found the problem!! :p

I disabled a module plugin called "mod_fisheye_menu_camp26," which I was using for the "Buy Dave's Stuff" section in the left sidebar (see the screen shots above). This added the section title and the images/links which expand in size when you hover over them. Disabling this plugin solves my editor problem!! What the heck!

Anyone know why this plugin does this? Can someone suggest a alternate plugin to accomplish a section at the top of the left sidebar like I have above? I want the images as links, but I do not need the fisheye effect.

Thanks,
Dave

The module must be loading some script that is blocking or interfering with the editor load. Do you have the latest version of Fisheye Menu?

Could be one of it's files is corrupt and a clean install may help. There are some other menus here

I have the same problem as Dave ... but I cant find out what affects my editor.

I installed CKEditor which did not work in the begining. Actually I installed this one after JCE. It was to heavy and generally I wanted to change it. At the point of installation CKEeditor did not appear on back end or front end.

Only TInyMC worked ... but that one is so not practical at all (in my eyes at all).
What I found out today is that after unpublishing TinyMC makes CKEditor work in the back end BUT not in front end. Basically in front end it has never worked.
I have an other site hosted in the same server and CKEditor works just fine in both front end and back end.

It is not a template issue and probably must be something that affects it ... how is it possible that at the back end is fine but not in front end?!!??

Any idea what to change ... ?

I have started unpublishing plugins to check if any of those affects the Editor in front end....and by the way why TinyMC works fine? Why especially that one and none of the other editors??
