I see the upgrade packages that are available are 1.5.0 to 1.5.25 but I have a 1.5.12 to upgrade.
Is it OK to use this?

You can use a Joomla 1.5.26 full package:
download & unzip at local PC,
use FTP (eg FileZilla) to upload all files/directories (except the /installation/ directory) to the server overwriting all current ones.

(it's always recommended to create a backup of the files + database before making such changes).

Please help me.

I have recenlty taken over control on of my Joomla template/site and am evry new to web desIgning/uploading.

My current version is Joomla 1.5.1.4 and I have downloaded the upgrade package to 1.5.25.

The problem that I am facing is that whilst I have access to the FTP server, I do not know where to upload/unpak the files on the server and how to back up the site correctly.

Any help or advise will be appreciated.

Use Akeeba to backup - it's free and AWESOME.
Unzip the upgrade package to your computer, then just upload all folders and files to the same location on the server via your ftp.

It's the same folder where they are now - usually top level - public_html or htdocs

if you unzip the Joomla full installation package on your local PC,
you'll notice that it has a directory structure.

If you upload all files + directories (except for the /installation/ directory) to the server,
to the root of your Joomla website, then everything should go ok.
Contact your host if you have troubles finding your Joomla root directory (which is mostly in the public_html directory)

HI.

Thanks for the feedback. I dowloaded the 1.5.25 stable pack anf after unpcaking them on my PC, i transfered everything across except the installation files.

When I open up Joomla, i am still seeng version 1.5.14 reflected in the top right corner. Please advise why this may be the case.
