Make sure to CHMOD  these folders to 777:

installation/sql
installation/sql/migration

I didn't have any more duplicate entry problems after I did that.

Well, I just tried that and I got the same error message.  Thx, though.

I know, my solution is a bit lame, but I got those messages, when I forgot to tick the checkbox, that I do have an v1.0 migration SQL.pp

Or maybe you should clear up everything from before and try it again with ticking the checkbox AND chmodding the sql and sql/installation directory 777.

CHMOD did it for me.

However, although the 'migration was successful' message came up, I was still taken back to step 6, with most options greyed out.

This time I just ignored that:

- then deleted the installation folder
- edited the configuration.php manually

and now the site is up.

com_migrator managed to dump my mambo data all right. Glad about that!

When copying configuration.php-dist to configuration.php so that all indicators are green, the installation doesn't work. Had to delete it and save it after the setup completed. Minor bug, but annoying nonetheless. The install package should include a blank configuration.php that more novice users could simply chmod after unpacking.

The installer then proceeded and, as mentionned earlier in this thread, populates the DB with module and menu data at the DB configuration screen. This causes duplicate entry errors when importing old data. NO DATA should be inserted into the DB at this stage.

The FTP screen comes between the DB setup and the DB import screens. Can't find a good reason for putting it in the middle of another process.

To avoid dupes when importing my data, I emptied the menu table between the DB configuration step and the DB import step. (But DON'T empty the modules tables, or you'll delete the login module).

Importing data works fine, though the prefix field needs more explanation. Something along The table prefix can be found in the import file : look for different 'INSERT INTO table' statements and type here the part that doesn't change in table names. If using an export from com_migrator simply type 'jos_'.

Completing the DB import step takes the user back one step: sitename, admin email and password have to be typed again, but importing the DB is impossible. A tiny message way down at the bottom of the screen states that migration is ipossible because it has been done already.
A better idea would have been to simply replace the import controls with a more explicit message along the lines of "Database populating successfully completed.".
Anyway, this step is unnecessary, after populating the DB with migration data one should
either be taken to the next step
or have an option to try again if anything went wrong.

Hope that helps.

I create the archive in the old and attached site in the installation of new joomla 1,5 RC3. But it appears a message saying that script did not have reply and later return so that I can add the name of the site, email and password.

The site has much content and registered in cadastre people, but nothing of components or modules that already have in joomla 1,5 RC3 what I make?

Aid!...rs

Sorry, but I couldn't understand everything you said, so I try to give a list of things to check.

 • Have you installed the migrator component to the 1.0 site and created a dump with it?
 • Have you given that exported dump to the 1.5 installer?
 • Have you checked the checkbox that you are migrating a 1.0 site in the intaller?
 • If there are problems, is your installation directory writable (777)?

Decided Problem

I modified the name of the archive of migration of the Joomla 1.0.x for migrate.sql and added to the directory in the Joomla 1,5 RC3 installation/sql/migration

Substituting the archive that was there

In the installation, I marked the option Archive in the directory

Soon the migration was a success

plus one to learn!!!

hugs  ;D

Migrating from joomla 1.0.13 to 1.5 looked fine, but the old admin password is not taken, and also the frontpage is blank.

An error message which many seem to have. However, some of the explanations for sorting oi out baffle me completely as non- mysql expert.

This is the error message. Now, in plain language please: what can I do to get rid of this?

I'd really appreciate some help here.

Thanks

This error comes from the fact that Joomla creates a few menu items even before you can choose between insert sample data or import existing data (archive). Thus, when you import data, it cannot tell the database 'create menu item number 1' (from archive data) because there already is one in the database.
This is clearly a bug.

Getting rid of this error
The hard way:
 • follow the install process until the 'import data' step,
 • open the database administration interface (usually phpMyAdmin),
 • empty table jos_menu (in SQL it would be 'TRUNCATE TABLE 'jos_menu')
 • return to the installation where you left it
 • import your data
The easy way:
...
(sorry folks, I don't know if there is an easy way)

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sad, Sad, Sad!

No sooner do I think I've achieved it, than the neyt problem turns up!

It turns out that banners and bannerclients is another one to empty before completing the migration. Then for a couple of microseconds it said SUCCESS, but too soon...

Quote:
Migration failed:

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1 SQL=SELECT `id` FROM `jos_menu_migration` WHERE `published` = 1 AND `parent` = 0 AND `menutype` = "mainmenu" AND `ordering` =

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1 SQL=UPDATE `jos_menu_migration` SET `home` = 1 WHERE `id` =

What does this mean to the righteous? On the new server I am using :

MySQL-Client-Version: 4.1.22

so what are the implications here, folks?

Again thanks for clear simple, straightforward non-technical answers...  :)

Regards

thanks to the help in this forum and the explanations on the joomla blog i managed to successfully migrate my database - only now i got an even stranger problem:

i cant login to the admin anymore, and the frontend is empty.

my login data is accepted, but instead of showing me the admin panel, i get the following:

ok, next issue resolved: i got rid of the loading module-error using the infos from this link:

viewtopic.php?f=428&t=266398&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=new+module#p1217279

adding a id1 with main_menu enabled in the SQL-database resolved the issue.

one big problem remains: i don't get a controlpanel in the admin backend!

Thank you goulvench!

This simple is the best explanation AND the best solution for the migrator problems:
Quote:
Getting rid of this error
The hard way:

* follow the install process until the 'import data' step,
* open the database administration interface (usually phpMyAdmin),
* empty table jos_menu (in SQL it would be 'TRUNCATE TABLE 'jos_menu')
* return to the installation where you left it
* import your data

Now i'm posting my problems :)
I had to truncate the table jos_menu, jos_modules, jos_modules_menu in order for the migrator to work out smoothly.

- When i finish my instalation, i go to the index:
"404 - Component not found"

- When i go to the administrator:
"Error loading Modules:"
and a list of..nothing, all blank

i guess my solution was my problem now, so i'm having a dillema :-\

If you truncate the modules tables of course you're not going to have any modules anywhere. In either the backend or the front end. That is what the error loading modules error is complaining about. Pull the modules back out of the installer where the client=1 to restore the back end modules to give you a functioning site. The error where your home page has a 404 is likely because your 1.0 site has a non-core component as the default and this has then caused your 1.5 site to be non-accessible because funnily enough the component hasn't been installed. In this case I'd usually recommend creating a new menu item pointing to the front page, publishing it and making it the default. Given you just wiped out your modules then that is going to be hard to do (the back end behaves like the front end, the thing in the middle is a component, the things around the side are modules).

Send me a copy of your SQL dump and I'll try to work out what is going on. sam DOT moffatt AT joomla DOT org. Its strange that you have to wipe out three tables to get it to work, but perhaps you've got something unique going on that I've never seen before!

Sam

Ok, after solving another issue by simple configuration I'm going to post this:
1) If you're having issues with tables and duplicates then check that you're:
 • Using the prefix jos_
 • Have ticked the "This is a 1.0 Migration Script"
2) If you're having issues where your front page is giving you 404's then check that the link is still valid. One reason for it not to be valid is that you had a third party component that isn't installed in 1.5 yet sitting there. The migrator disables links to components that aren't installed as it goes. Any core extensions you have will work fine, however if you have any non-Core extensions then you're in a position where you might get a 404. Create a new link to a content item manually and set it as the default. This will give you a front page without an error. Once you've reinstalled everything you can change the type of the old links if they're still not working.
3) Between migration attempts make sure that if you're using the FTP/SCP method you need to replace the file as it gets modified before import (for HTTP it gets replaced with each attempt so this isn't an issue). Note: if you switch methods halfway through from FTP/SCP to HTTP, make sure you delete your old migrate.sql file!

Hi Sam,

I'm working on a migration as well, getting that 404 when opening the 1.5 site. However, on the old 1.0.x site, the Frontpage component is still set to the Home menu item.

Other funny thing is that in the 1.5 install there are no component, modules nor plugins? I'm sure this was working correct in earlier versions of the migrator.

Note; missing your blog on the backlink, got some errors on that and disabled that during the export in 1.0.x.

Any pointers on what I might be doing wrong?

Hey Robin,

Mail me a copy of your dump file and I'll have a look at it. The backlink migration plugin for some reason seems to break on specific PHP configurations. Whilst its not essential it can speed up things and reduce a bit of extra memory usage. I'll have a look over things and see what is going on. If you're having issues, just try to create a new item and see if that resolves the front page issue. Also check out what menu type its given to the existing items.

Sam,

The export file is 9Mb, that's no problem for your mail account?

Just gzip it up or similar, it'll bring it down to a sane size. It should handle it fine, if it bounces, mail me and i'll give you one of my other accounts that won't bounce.

Hi all,

Any solution for this error, its posted also above but no replay about it:

Quote:
Error at the line 8: INSERT INTO josjos_corejos_acljos_aro (`id`,`sectionjos_value`,`value`,`orderjos_value`,`name`,`hidden`) VALUES ( '10','users','62','0','Administrator','0');

Query:INSERT INTO josjos_corejos_acljos_aro (`id`,`sectionjos_value`,`value`,`orderjos_value`,`name`,`hidden`) VALUES ( '10','users','62','0','Administrator','0');

MySQL: Table 'DBNAME.josjos_corejos_acljos_aro' doesn't exist

MySQL: 4.1.20
migration file created with migrator_rc7

Edit #1: Solved, i didnt enter on Joomla 1.5.1 install table prefix at the migration part (Hint: it should be default jos_ , if user have something else he can enter it.)

But now i have other problems. I just wonna to migrate users and nothing else. But it seems that migrator tool have delete all contents in Menu .. Its empty, and the index page cannot be opened, only administrator.

Edit #2: It is realy weird that if i do migration i can not get Site working, only administrator part. And if i do just normal install its working fine.
In migrator script i choice only : Core ACL ARO ETL Plugin ; Core ACL Groups ARO Map ETL Plugin ; Users ETL Plugin
Only for user migration. Mysql encoding is UTF8 on old place and in migration part i choice also utf8 as old encoding...
Any help would be nice.

Question: If the old encoding is UTF8 can i just import that .sql file over phpMyAdmin. or joomla installation(migration script) is doing also something else...

Thnx

I have migrated our main site from 1.0.x to 1.5 stable. We are developing a new site for ourselves in joom1.5. When looking at the dev site and the content most of the links have a • before and • after. This is every where including all internal titles (section, category and so on) all admin links, the dates content items were created and then in the template manager under parameters every single field title is presented like ??field title?? I know it is not that same as some of the other issues mentioned above, but this seems like the right place to toss out the question; what the heck has gone wrong??

I have removed the template, I have flushed the entire install and started from scratch twice, always with the same oddness in the data. What am I missing? I have a strong feeling that the issue is with the data export using the migration tool. Any help is greatly appreciated.

@crow, Re: Edit #2:

If you do a partial migration that excludes the menu, content and modules then you're not going to get a front end that is working because there isn't going to be a front end to look at since the data won't be there. You're going to have to go through and recreate everything that is missing like a new menu (and relink it back to the module if it isn't already) which will more than likely try to create a new menu module at the same time. You'll get just your users but it'll take a bit of work to get the site back up to scratch.

The migrator dumps the site out in whatever format it was in. So if it was in UTF-8, then the script is UTF-8. If it was some other encoding then logically its going to be some other encoding. You'll also probably need to check out the old UTF-8 with 1.0 guide written by David Gal if you want to make a UTF-8 dump. Additionally you can convert the dump manually as well if need be by using iconv. If you have a UTF-8 database, the best way is to get your 1.0 installation into UTF-8 mode (there will be a "Set Names UTF-8" or something somewhere in one of the 1.0 files) and this will then generate a UTF-8 dump file.

@Slideri812: It sounds like you have language debugging enabled as it marks outputted strings in that way. The period means it was translated and the ?? means that the string wasn't translated. Try disabling some settings and see if it changes things.

Thnx for you replay,

I get it now, but it mean also that there isnt option just to import user and not doing anything to rest of site and datebase. If i create dump over phpMyAdmin i get that UTF8: "Set Names UTF-8" so it mean my database is already a UTF8.
I dont know if this scirpt is doing anything else then importing it in tables. If it is only this i should be able to import this dump over phpMyAdmin....????

Thnx for your info, i will also try this what i am saying above...

Thnx
