Upgrading to Joomla 1.5 issues

I have been trying to upgrade my my joomla site and the migrator doesn't seem to work on my large database (200mb). It keeps timing out, and I am wondering what the manual
alternatives are for me for making my 1.0.15 database 1.5 complaint. I have read every article that exists on the internet (I wouldn't have posted here until I did such). It just simply is not going smoothly a 1.0.1.5 upgrade to 1.5... any advice?
