Moving Joomla website from subdirectory to homepage

Post by procket » Fri Feb 25, 2011 6:49 pm

I currently have my joomla website in a subdirectory of my website. I would like to finally move it to the homepage directory so it will be my homepage. How would I go about the process?

For example:

I currently have my jooomla website in example: website.com/joomla

But I want to move the joomla website so it will be in: website.com

Can I just move all the folders/files from the subdirectory into the root? And the database and everything will be ok?

Or should I use akeeba backup to restore the website in the root?

Would they both work? Or is the safer way using akeeba backup?

Thank you

Yes, you should first empty the root folder. You will need to update the config file after. You should use Akeeba to create a backup of your site any time you are making changes.

Yes I just transferred the folders and files over and it worked. Do i just need to change some folder paths in the Joomla administration global configuration place?

Like the path to log folder, path to temp folder, ftp settings?

Thanks.

remove the 'subdirectory' from "path to log folder, path to temp folder, " Leave ftp alone....not even enable it
