Folks,

I'm new here, and new to Joomla. Am maintaining the website for my organization. Previous person in my position left some notes to the effect that support for Joomla 1.5 was ending soon-- is this true?

My guess is that if the 3.0 release is delayed then support for major security fixes should be extended as well. As of April bug fixes for Joomla 1.5 are unlikely to be released any more, only MAJOR security fixes.

Now would be a good time to do an audit of your site to see what extensions it uses and if there have been any Joomla code hacks made. Check to see if your extensions are available for the latest version of Joomla, 2.5 or if there are compatible extensions that can be substituted.

Do an upgrade of your site using a new database and start testing version 2.5. As far as I know jUpgrade will install the upgrade of your site in a new folder leaving the live site unchanged. This will allow you to debug the new site until it is working well enough to go live and replace your original site.
