uploading a PDF via media manager gives strange error

I've uploaded several PDFs via Media manager with no problem, but one PDF gives me this error:

Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /administrator/index.php could not be found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I've opened the PDF (supplied to me by a client) in Acrobat Pro and reserved it, but still get the same problem.

Any ideas?
