All,

I found a work around so dropped my pursuit of this, but still as true techie, have to know how to do this.

You have examples of both 1.0 and 1.5 xml files and a HOWTO on how to make them, with explanation of what elements are mandatory and which are optional.

The idea that there is not information on how to make a proper xml file for a 1.5 template is just not correct. Perhaps you are confused and think that it must be called setup.xml

Perhaps you are the one that is confused cuz that comment is just not helpful at all...
Care to give us that link to the instructions because I can't find it.

Try looking at the examples that come shipped with Joomla! core. There are three. Also look at:

Should also note that Old Man River's post at http://forum.joomla.org/posting.php?mod ... &p=1550516 seems to be 1.0 related and does not pertain to 1.5.

Hello

I am also getting the same error and want to change PHP version (my hosting company is using 5.2.6). Although I have the codes that i need to add in the .htaccess file I have two questions as follow;

Is the .htaccess file a text file?
What exactly should be the position of the code Addhandler........
Is there a proper place where I need to add this code??

Hi all .. I am very new to joomla but I am sooo happy I just solved the problem you are all having and this is how.. I downloaded free joomla template called 'theme 125' if you google it you should see it....

I had this same error:
ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package

1) I unziped it in my local computer
2) I looked through it .. there was few files there .. until I got to the folder called 'theme125'
3) I zipped the folder called 'theme125'
4) I went to my administrator section .. Extensions >> Install/Uninstall
and uploaded the zipped 'theme125' .....

It worked so I think if you get rid of all the other info files in the zip file by extracting it in you local computer then only zipping back the actual template folder ... and uploading only that zipped template folder ..it will work.

I have tried this technique with other free templates and they all work fine (I am using PHP 5.2.8 .. but the type of PHP you using should not matter).

I have this error to0.
Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.
And i cant install any extension. (com, mod or plg)

Safe mod is off and uploading is on and all folder permission is Writable.

Please help me
